Funny thing is, I would have known immediately what this sound was. We are on the fly path of the Canada geese, White tailed geese and the Sandhill Crane. Twice a year that sound is part of our life. Love it.
This is perfect! Isn't it amazing how new it is always is, even though we've heard it before, and yet every single time this amazing song of geese and all those other crows and such, it's like a new experience of wonderment again around us.
No matter how many times I hear them they cause the same reaction in me. I stop whatever I'm doing and look up. After all these years, it's still cool.

I had a huge flock of Sandhill pass over today. They were so very loud! I couldn't help hope they going safely. They are late passing through here! Most are long gone. Today it was only 11*, even colder tonight and tomorrow. Of course, wind chills are even worse. I know it is nature...but my worry is too.

My geese haven't left the pond yet but I know they are close to leaving. We are having another ??warm front hitting us after having below freezing temps. The geese have decided to stay a bit longer I guess - why leave when the weather is warm, there is a pond and lots to eat (from the land) not me. I do not feed the geese for there is lots for them to eat naturally. When they arrive back home in the spring, looking haggard from their long flight I feed them a bit to build them up and then they forage on what is naturally available to them. When they leave I feel they are bidding me goodbye for winter and see ya in the spring. That sound in your valley would thrill my heart. lol to you n Family - hugz to M.

Last night the valley filled with a noise that was so loud, I didn't recognize it for a bit. First I thought the frogs were hollering for rain. I walked outside in the dark. Never in my lifetime have I heard so many geese so close. Either the weather front was holding them close to the ground or they all decided to go further south at the same time.

Hearing sounds that announce weary creatures on their journey can be most captivating. Great prose Gail! A whiff of freshness from the usual poems!
