ha,ha loved it. We do so many home repairs between us it is unreal. The best part is, if a person just puts their mind to it, there is an answer. One of my nephews lives in the City and calls fix it people all the time - I wouldn't want to see his bill, but I would be glad to teach what I know... mostly "Out O The Box Solutions" ha,ha. Never heard of Gorilla Glue, but sounds like a nice bit of stuff to have around. They don't sell that around here. You did fine with the presentation and photos :)

Gail, could that be the piece that causes the stopper to go up and down and thus seal the sink to hold water? I have a time with mine, it doesn't leak but it isn't hooked on to the stopper correctly and so doesn't always plug the sink.

I hope this makes sense.

I hate plumbing or roof leaks more than any other household problems!

My hubby is not a handyman so over the years I have become a handywoman of sorts.

Congrats on the creativity and fix. I love it when I can forego an expensive repair by someone else and "git er dun" myself. I toast to you with my morning coffee.

You are so smart. I wouldn't have ever thought of that but I am going to store that in my mind.
How wonderful you got that fixed.
Plumbing is not a good thing around here either.
Well have a lovely weekend. Oh, did you get that box?

Gail,

When we had a leak in the pvc U joint.... years ago we called a plumber. He told me to fix this problem it would cost us $800.00. At the time, I didn't have the money to cover the expense. He said, go to home depot and get this tape.....it's a plumbers tape that comes in a sealed pouch. It's wet when you open it, looks something like the material used for a cast if you had broke a bone. Wrap this tape tightly, with no folds around the pipe, and allow it to dry. Once dry the tape will harden, and won't allow anything to leak through. The plumber stated it's what we use, and it will last up to 8 to 10 years with no issues.
I sealed the pipe with 3 sets of this tape, and then closed the hole in the ceiling. The pipe is still fine, no leaks and it's been close to 18 years.

Don't you hate it when you have to work on pipes and the area is inconvenient to get too? We had to cut a 3 foot whole in the ceiling to get up a ladder and through the ceiling.

Awesome wonder woman!! We have a leak that's been leaking for some time too. Behind the washer, the damage was behind the wall. I poked my finger through the wall when I noticed the wall looked "funny". Still waiting for hubs to fix it...

Hey Gail . Papa here. Click on this link http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_g5zUd7bijOw/TRLIBI9Uf3I/AAAAAAAADTM/1cwXtZ7goDA/s640/StopperControllerOld.jpg
it is for a pull drain stop. you pull the stem up and it closes the drain. push the stop down and the drain releases and will open the drain. I am guessing if you unscrew the side piece there will be a little ball on a stem and on the other side of the ball should be a washer. you probably need to replace the washer..

Awesome. Congratulations, Gail!
I think we should keep some Gorilla glue on hand.
I was going to say I thought it was from an old sort of sink plug, but I don't know.

Glad you got it fixed!
