My Mother used to cook the same way, and so I know what you mean about looks and taste, which was always delicious. But what you're doing is not what enough people do these days, and that's exactly as you said, not wasting anything and not complaining! :-)

Can you bake that way too? I cook by look and taste and can't bake for nothing because inevitably I will try this or that not called for in the recipe and I end up with a mess.

Cooking things I make have a common theme and changing the spices makes the difference. Except for a black bean and chicken soup I made the other day. I added the black beans, kidney beans, some corn and threw in some spices. Very good and tasty except it tastes like fire. I froze it, hope it helps calm it a bit. Smile

Those didhes actually look very good to me but then I like a mess cooked together. It's nice when you don't waste any food. That's the way I was raised. I don't remember my mother ever throwing out anything. We ate it all and we always were hungry. xox

I can improvise, but not as well as you! The dishes sound interesting....you'll have to let us know how they turn out!

I wish I could be there to learn about seasonings. I know salt and pepper. ;o)

We had a similar dinner tonight. Hubby always called it scrapple.
Left over roast beef. Left over baked potatoes. Left over hamburger helper and a small can of corn tossed in.

*hugs* ♥

We use all our leftovers..we have leftover night at least once a week sometimes twice...it helps with the food budget. I hate throwing food out...I usually just rewarm..but have made a hash a time or two:)

My left overs are either eaten the next day or I freeze them for another meal in the near future.

Same here. We do not through away food. If nothing else, it gets thrown into Left Over Soup.

Those are my kinda meals! I call it "Hunter Stew" as I hunt in the fridge to see what I'm going to combine for dinner. I love using the crock pot for dinner. WhenI used to work there were many, many mornings where I went to work with fingers smelling of onion having stocked the pot for dinner!

Great post Gail. Leftovers at our house, done up by Mum were the greatest thing ever. She made entire meals out of leftovers and fed a bunch of us. My Sister, I feel, is the reigning Queen of creating the dinner of all dinners with her leftovers. Just something we were brought up with - as my Mum would say "waste not, want not"

Since I've been out of town I missed your original post about your husband's surgery - I went back and read it. I'm sure this is a scary time since his heart is so bad and since he can't work. My heart hurts with yours. I love the way you cook and I cook the very same way. Yesterday I had a couple of chicken breasts in the freezer that needed to be cooked before freezer burn got them. I melted a little butter in a pan, threw in some onions and mushrooms, laid the chicken breasts on them, put a can of mushroom soup on top of the chicken and baked. It was wonderful - I wanted to eat every single piece of onion and mushroom! blessings, marlene

there is no such thing as leftovers- it's just a new dish! I think I would go mad if I lived in a household that didn't eat some sort of reincarnation- I don't waste anything
