Could call it porcupine weed too! We have a weed around here, not sure of the name. If you get close to it . . . you are covered . . . and I mean COVERED in tiny black stickin' round like ball like thingies . . . And if Snickers the dog is near . . . her curly longer hair is gets COVERED too! The joys of being outdoors . . .
I do so hate these things and never knew the name of the plant or needles and they are so difficult to get out of clothing or socks.. also off dogs fur... great shots of the flower, I have not seen them looking like that, only like what is on your socks.
I've never heard of these, and that's ok, we have plenty of sharp sticky weeds here as it is. But you are right about the beauty of the symmetry... on the plant, and not stuck in your clothing, which must surely be a pain to remove. Like you I have to marvel and this wonderful plan for seed dissemination though, pretty clever!
