I love the aroma of tobacco smoke; pipe, cigar, and cigaret. I succumbed to it's allure for thirty three years until I realised that my life's essence was going up in smoke. 16 years ago. rel
Love it! The aroma of tobacco can be seductive. You captured your meeting beautifully and it`s lovely to know the love is still there. Congratulations!
I can understand a bit about the smell of a good pipe ... and denim, of course. But cigs... hmm. BUT, it is about you, not me this poem - which is written very sweetly. :)
You've taken a different path from the prompt, much as did I. I love the smell of tobacco smoke, just don't like the dirty ashtrays. Probably cause my dad smoked cigars, the smell to me is steeped in memory, all of it good. Thanks for your poem.
For me Gail, it was the warmth and comfort of those arms wrapped around me. I found solace there and the oh - so familiar smell of his aftershave, forever stamped in my heart and mind. And - then - he was gone - my Prince was needed elsewhere, but - nere did I forget and will remember always - until my Prince returns for me to join him on his journey. I feel what you feel in happiness and the way you express yourself Gail about your love of 40 years. Congraulations my dear and best wishes to you both and your families.
I totally 'get' the attraction to a man who smokes .. especially one whose breath is always sweet .. a man who 'has a way' of holding one, lighting it and on and on. I guess you can tell I knew one of those men once upon a time.
You capture so well how smells can trigger emotions.

Writing Prompt from The Mag

First I saw your eyes
Then I saw the rest of you
Knew you were my life
Falling in love with
The feel of your denim
The tobacco smell
And the touch of your hands
Even now
The touch of denim
The smell of tobacco
Reminds me of real love.

It's how I felt and feel about Patrick. Forever that smell will bring him sharply to my mind. It will be with me to my end.
Love,
