this is a real treasure trove, i like that bag and there is so much to see that takes me back in time.. a mini museum is what you have. and i like the critters who inhabit it
Hello Gail, they are treasures and wonderful memories of your Dad. I like how you have them displayed, diffinitely keepers. Enjoy your day and the new week ahead!
Whoa- what is that specked creature? I have my grandparents old sausage grinder and chicken water crock..many items..even my grandpa's old shaving mug. I cannot bear to lose them, but I wish just one of my kids or grandkids cared about the history (not to mention the family tree I have researched for the last 37 years). :(
Wow, what a fabulous trove of treasures from your Dad and Granddaddy. You are a very fortunate one to have visuals and relics that spring memories to your mind. xoxo Linda
You have so many wonderful treasures that I'd bet a huge amount of folks would really enjoy seeing as well, besides right here on your blog. Have you ever thought of having a school field trip or some other historical day out for folks (especially little eyes and minds) to share in your treasures. You've got a gold mind right there.
Memories are so important and history is so special.... Amazing how much of your Dad's old 'stuff' you have.... I got rid of so much of my parent's STUFF when I was younger... Now --I wish I still had some of it... Hugs, Betsy
You are a great keeper of the past. You have some real treasures there. Like Betsy, I fear I did not hang on to things that would mean a lot to me now.
The best part of all your history, is that you know what it is. You aren't left wondering what is this, or what was it used for. A lot of museum pieces there, Gail. I love history so thank you for sharing it with us. ♥
Your words add a luxurious patina to that which already exists in images.

I thought of Dad today
As I cleaned away
In a shop of memories
Of him and for me
[Image]
World War II bag and cans
Handleless hammers and axes
Still waiting for him to repair
And parts of his dad were also there
[Image]
Fishing nets and cotton scales
cans of oil and cow bells
[Image]
I hang them high for all to see
I am the keeper of history.

While I clean I must not forget
to respect the nature that has claimed this for a nest.

So many things are lost, so we have to keep some part of history.. and still let nature have a nest.

I love it. How wonderful to live somewhere where you still have all these things, where they were first stored and used and tinkered with.
