It seems to me that wha corinth lost in finesse after his stroke he replaced with a certain deliberate vigour. Looking at the last two self-portraits you posted, it is so compelling to relive Corinth's act of painting by following the buildup of forms by the gaze - mark by mark the viewer, like myself, relives the act of painting by the painter. Personally I find this kind of painting very satisfying to look at for a long time, but not everyone does so. G
