When xenon hid light bulbs were first offered as a factory fitted option by prestige manufacturers in the 1990's they really transformed the night driving experience. Producing over 300% more light than standard halogen lights, lasting ten time longer and looking extremely cool with their powerful blue white tint, HID xenon lights soon became the must have fashion accessory.

Art Deco cars celebrated strength, speed and classy design. So even though some of the grills looked downright ugly (eg 1950 Buicks with the overhanging teeth look), the cars definitely had a presence.

I am normally thrilled to have 1930s and 40s advertising from magazines and newspapers, but your photos are more substantial.

The Ford Fusion's grill, with its strong horizontal elements, has been described as strongly resembling a high-tech shaving razor.
