Vivacity, good humour, quick wit - she may have had them all. Even a good heart or a pleasant voice add to attractiveness, don't you find? To capture those in paint you'd have to be Rembrandt.

Thank you so much for this post. I came across your blog accidentally when looking for some family info.

Sophia (Heywood) Musters is the 5th great grandmother of my husband. We have seen the paintings in London, but many years ago. We live in Vancouver and now can't wait to have a few days in Seattle. The subject of another of the paintings, Mary Hartopp, Countess Howe (Gainsborough) is my husband's 6th great aunt. Thank you, thank you. We can't wait to go. I feel lucky to have found your blog before the exhibition moves on.
