"I'll just throw in a rat," says De La Luna, a Twin Cities-area rat breeder who keeps several as pets, including one that free-ranges in the house and loves bathing with kids.'

Rat breeders, scientists, rat enthusiasts, and prize-winning rats from around the state will gather on Saturday, July 14, at the Bell Museum on the Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis to celebrate the rodent's agility and intelligence, as well as its history and place in our ecosystem. The all-day "Rat Fest" (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; admission is $5 for adults, $3 children) is part of the museum's "Animals Behaving Badly" summer series that explores the quirks and calamities that can happen when wildlife and humans share each other's backyards.
