I think I have a problem with parents who are more concerned that Faust is teaching their children to love Satan, then they are about what their teenagers are doing with their spare time at home, like threatening their teachers on Xanga.

After all, Faust's story is appropriately the Historie of the damnable life, and deserved death of Doctor Iohn Faustus and is based in part on Acts and Monuments by John Foxe, also known as Foxe's Book of Martyrs and thus perhaps the second most influential Christian text in history after the Bible (it was often the only other book a poor Englishman owned during the first few centuries of printing). You'd know this if you actually read a history of the book, or even the book. I realize Satan scares the shit out of some rubes, but he's mentioned in the Bible, he used to be an angel, and he's in The Inferno which was long a favorite of the Catholic Church. So get with the f-ing program - ignoring him doesn't make him go away - if you believe and you ignore him, then God is going to sic him on your ass just like he did to Job, and if you're an average evangelical American, you do not have the fortitude of Job, you're going to crack when the Adversary gets to the boils.
