My little girl is not yet between the ages of four and twelve, but I have been assured that at some point she will be, and when she is, she will embrace Princess Culture, regardless of my opinion on the subject. This disturbs me greatly, and I have been practicing my tolerance by remarking how nice her "three Disney princesses" nightshirt (which she inherited from a coworker [of mine, not hers]) is when she wears it to bed. Princesses are apparently so popular that they made the Yahoo mover list and were deserving of an explanation all of their own, The Princess Phenomenon. What's most disturbing about that fact is that it primarily means that if you were to picture legions of four year olds surfing the web for the latest news about Jasmine, Belle, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Pocahontas, Ariel and Cinderella - your imagination probably couldn't live up to the reality. And while these most popular Yahoo princess searches may not do my daughter any good at the moment (though she has already learned to efficiently use a mouse because it means she can play games at Sesame Street online), they may aid some of you, and no doubt will aid my sister LissyJo in her obsession with The Little Mermaid. By the way, Allison, the real story is not nearly as happy as the Disneyesque version. And for Klund's little girl, a story of an Aztec princess, Ixtaccihuatl (like Snow White). For all I know the Aztecs were the mortal enemies of her ancestors, but it was the best I could do.
