I'm trying to understand the motivation or possible positive outcome from speaking with a representative of the government?
I don't mean this to be Snarky in any way but from the youtube video of the attorney speaking to law students (I believe he was from the Norfolk area) it seems that speaking to these folks can never help or am I wrong?

Cory, ordinarily you would be right. This is one of those "kids, don't try this at home" moments.
Remember two things.
a. My friends are a cut above the ordinary. I trust them implicitly to develop the gambit.
b. The ping has been made. We need to ping back, estimate range and probable track of the cockroach across the floor, before we flip the lightswitch.
To quote the great Holmes, "Quick, Watson! The game's afoot!"
We'll see how the Sipsey Street Irregulars live up to their Baker Street ancestors.

PS: You probably figured this out, but the post was a ping too.

Subject: Need help on an LEO question. Date: 9/16/2009 3:53:41 P.M. Central Daylight Time From: GeorgeMason1776 To: REDACTED
Got a guy claiming to be "Keith (REDACTED) with DHS" calling around to my friends. Doesn't give an office number, just this cell phone number: 205-602-XXXX. Ever heard of him? Is he legit? If he is, I'll tell my friends to go ahead and talk to him, since Alabama is a one-party state.
"For whom the bell tolls: A recent email to "Jack Durer.""
