I'm in the midst of a small battle about Christmas traditions with Pip, who with a German Mother, is still very traditionalist with St Nicolas and presents on Christmas Eve rather than Christmas Day! And a completely different view on Christmas itself!
What traditions are there in Denmark? Do they do Father Christmas?
a friend was just telling me her 7 yo was convinced he 'saw Santa' in their garden the other night - they spent ages closely questioning him for fear he'd spotted an intruder. turns out he was just trying to get his younger brother over-excited #parentalangst
I read somewhere it has to do with something Sami. It just seems more relevant what with the reindeer to them than it does to us (especially if with "us" you're talking about us people living in Australia...).
I sense a dark and rather cynical thought process most likely influenced by limited daylight. By applying the most sinister of today's cultural standards, just about everything, including the Easter Bunny, seems pretty wack! It's the magic that makes it all happen, and in spite of all the turmoil in the world, it is the magical moments that keep us centered, hopeful and focused on better times. I think.
it has been something talked about a lot in the boss' household of late as their youngest daughter hates, hates, hates Santa! She is only 3 bless her. I can't wait to tell her when she is 18 how scared of Santa she was.

...santa claus is a rather scary idea. you've got a bearded old man in a funny suit who uses candy to lure small children onto his lap to tell him their secrets. after which, he sneaks into their locked houses via the chimney in the middle of the night, eats all of their cookies, leaves some wrapped packages containing odin only knows what and disappears again into the night, flying away without a trace in an archaic mode of reindeer-drawn transport. still wearing his funny suit and hiding behind that beard.
it's practically the clinical description of a paedofile-leaning terrorist.
