Yet, if we don't rage against ignorance, negativity and evil ... we lose something of ourselves.

It often seems one is walking on a knife edge while juggling altruism and selfishness.

Very good way to look at things in general. We cannot make others change, we can hope they do, but we have no power or authority over anyone else, so we have to let them be what they are. Keeping peace in our lives helps us bring peace to those around us, so looking for the positive aspects is a better way than to get upset at the profound stupidity and cruelty in others. Sorry, had to throw that in.
