I know hybrids reduce air pollution, but by how much? It would be interesting to estimate the impact on air quality if 10% of Bakersfield drivers switched to hybrids... or 20%, or 50%. As Lois said, the troubles of the community sometimes seem so overwhelming that it's hard to know where to start. But if hybrids could make a real impact on air quality, then individuals could have a sense of what they would be contributing to the good of the community, in addition to what they'd save on gas.

The LA Times car writer raved about this vehicle, noting it offered the mileage of a Prius with the size and comfort of a typical sedan and a price in the mid 20s, right about the cost of a Prius but less than a Camry. It really could be the vehicle that starts a Detroit revival.
