I am right with you on that one, Ross! I can attribute my interest in History- which led to Geo-Political economics & analysis (middle east, africa, latin america, cold war, etc.) all began by my reading All Star Squadron when I was in the 3rd grade. Two years of reading Roy Thomas and you are ready to pass any AP History Exam and ready to write any essay on Early Modern Europe! I know I certainly was!
Another great cover, Ross... but that's not what I'm posting about. Please pardon me going off-topic here, but I didn't want to wait until you happen to fall onto something more to the point.
I thought of yet another possibility for an ad hoc superteam. Put together Black Widow, Red Sonja, Jade (as Green Lantern), Shrinking Violet, and possibly Bluestreak, and you have: The Women of Color!
(Yeah, there are other Black and Red heroines to choose from, and one could possibly add the White Witch, Indigo, or any of a few others. But the above would, I think, be the ideal lineup if you can pull it off.)
I actually already have a color-based female team coming up.

I think I remember reading that John Byrne wanted to do a Justice Society/Invaders team-up to follow his Captain America/Batman team-up, but for some reason it never happened...love to see that cover if you could squeeze everyone in!
Loving the cover, and yes Barry Allen seems like a natural die to the tie travel nature of the story. You could also do a sequel w/Kang/Immortus and Professor Zoom too.
I didn't know Byrne was wanting to do a JSA/Invaders book. Does seem like a natural after the Cap/Batman book though. Too bad that never happened.
Did I mention I loved this cover? So much going on. Awesome!

Yes!
Love the Invaders meeting the GA Flash; they fit so well together.
Ross, since it was for special research, Doom used his time platform to travel back to then. Barry, aware of changes Doom made, traveled back on his cosmic treadmill to undo them.
@Ross: Yep! That's one thing he has in common with the late, great Mark Gruenwald. A respect for past continuity that seems to have gone the Way of the Dinosaur. With today's writers, though?

This is a story that I think I would need Roy Thomas to write. If there's anyone who can come up with a World War II epic that features time travel, The Invaders, Doctor Doom and two Flashes, he's the guy. He'd make it all fit into continuity, too! Thomas' vast knowledge of history and comic book history shows through in all his writing.
