I am just back online after losing my computer, Jane. It is nice to catch up with you. I am so glad that you have central air at the lake. That should help with the allergies, too. One of my daughters has terrible allergies. Hope Mr. Handsome does well at the show! Blessings- xo Diana
Dear Blonde, Take care of yourself. It miserable to have allergies or a cold in the heat. Sounds as if you have been busy . I really hate having the ac on...but hey, I am old and need it. we have had the best two days ever, yesterday and today. I would love a whole summer like this. xoxo,Susie
Hello Jane, Sorry to hear that you are feeling bad...I am sick today and it's just no fun at all:( The hanger idea is really cute...I love using old things around my home.
Jane - So sorry you've been so sick. Allergies can ruin a perfectly good day. With all of the storms, etc. we've been having, the air is just full of "stuff". But, luckily I'm on allergy meds that are apparently working this year. Dr. told me to take them year round. It really seems to have helped thru this spring season.
Feel better Jane...Nothing so debilitating as allergies. I had them as a young girl...but grew out of them. That picture of the dog reminds me of ours...dogs are so smart...as soon as we started to pack...she would start sitting near the door. Hope you have a great week doing what you love. Balisha
Allergies can be horrible, I truly know-hope they pass soon Jane! Sounds like you have been getting out a bit though, have fun with the dog show next week:@)
Hi Jane... sorry you lost your trees in the wind... so sad always... your neighbor's Peonies are beautiful though... glad you rescued them... I always love seeing Milo and Layla... how fun to have a dog show!... and I love the photo on the beach and in the cute oceany frame... from your pics, it looks like the lake is right outside your front door, is it?... that would be so fabulous... hope your allergies get better soon... the cotton hasn't started falling around here yet, but will soon... hope you have a feel~better, relaxing week, xoxo Julie Marie
Benadryl is a staple here at This Old House. Take pics at the dog show, would love to see it. And lucky you, I've said it before.. ooh, to have a house on the water.
Hi Jane...I have been so busy myself I never even realized you did not post for a bit. Love the hanger with the towels and such pretty pb frames too. Hope you feel better soon, I have allergies too.
I have rubbed my eyes so much in the last 2 weeks. Honeysuckle and jasmine are blooming here, and they really give me the sneezies, wheezies, and itchies! Love your hanger. Hope your allergies go away soon!
That's a bummer that your allergies are still bothering you. Hopefully they'll clear up soon. I like the hanger project you did. Such a cute idea. We've had "mild" temperatures the last two days...it was ONLY 95. :) We're just starting the four hottest months of the year. June thru Sept. are hot, hot, hot. I live for Fall weather around here. LOL!
I love catching up with you!! God speed on keeping your allergies at bay! Of all the pics my favorite is the 'Grow Dam It' one!! Glad you have cooled off up there! It hasn't hit 100 degrees in Texas yet!!! And we are into JUNE!!! We have had a year or two where we HAVEN'T made the triple digits! It would be great to go this route again!!
Hey Girlfriend, So sorry you've been feeling rotten lately. I wish we would go back to some of that warmer weather. It was in the 50's here today...my gosh, it's June. Are you two up at the lake full-time right now? Maybe I missed that part. Anyway we really need to plan something for later this summer. Hugs friend and feel better too, Cindy
Hi Jane, Thank heavens I'm not the only one that procrastinates. I have a long, long list too..but I lost it! How nice to have a boat house and every time you talk about going to it I get houseboat envy! My little sis and her husband had one and they loved it. The thing is, I can't keep up with one home let alone two! :) Big hugs! Mona
Boy, lots of places are having some "weather"... Sorry to hear you lost your birches. Dang it all...
Allergies. Hmmm.. I'm thinking I'm going to have to get to an allergy doc... HOLY COW! I have hives nearly every day and it's beginning to drive me nuts... OK... MORE nuts. :-D They're just crummy, aren't they?
Wish we had a cute 'lil general/all purpose store here. There is NOTHING!
Hope you feel better and get more coolish weather...
The storms were scary all over last weekend. My husband ended up having to work (lots of power out) and my son hung out with me...which means he watched TV in the basement and came out to eat on occasion. Today it is steamy hot and the rain is supposed to start again tonight. We ended up postponing our garage sale until this Saturday, so I am having it rain or shine. I want it over!
I agree about the allergies. I wake with minor headaches when the pollen is high...I actually had a break for a couple of days but today our grass pollen is way up and I knew it before I looked it up.
The hanger project is cute. I am glad to know we can grow wisteria in this part of the country. We are thinking of putting up a small arbor where we lost one of our trees last summer and I would love to have it dripping in wisteria! So pretty.
I hope you're feeling better soon. I suffer with allergies & sinus problems & it's so annoying. It's definitely summer in my area. The AC runs constantly!
I am not doing too well catching peoples blogs lately, too much going on it seems. I'm sorry about your allergies and hope they improve soon. Our peonies are gone (yours are lovely) and now our hydrangeas are here. I wish mine were a deep blue, but they are sort of lilac and washed out looking. I need to research what I need to do to the soil to amend that. That is a cute little project in the bath --the wooden hanger and finger towels!
I'm glad you guys got up to your lakehouse. Sorry you weren't feeling the best. At least you got a few things accomplished. It's been way to cold up here to do anything on the water...and too windy. Hopefully summer will get here soon. xo

Oh Jane, I laughed when you said "you forgot the asparagus." Been there...done that. I came over here to read your latest post and ended up staying and reading tons. Always so much fun to read what you have been up too. My husband has been really suffering with allergies too...something new for him. He wakes up in the morning sneezing and sneezing and sneezing. Poor thing. Hope your's goes away soon. xo
The weather has been crazy all over ~ hot hot hot now tonight they are calling for a chance of frost ~ unbelievable I say! LOL I see you are reading the pretty on ~ I read a review and it intrigued me ~ are you enjoying it? Hope your allergies calm down soon ~ it has also been a crazy year for high pollen counts ~ it usually does not bother me too much but I am really noticing it this year. Hope you are having a good week. xo
Oh my poor lady, so sorry your allergies are so bad. You need to get those AC's in pronto, that should help. :) Love the pics of the nursery, you are right they are like the place I went Monday. You take care of yourself. Kit
You've been a busy gal! I'm so sorry to hear you've been suffering with allergies. I get those too, but not as bad as you've described with the hives. Sounds awful! Claritin or Zyrtec help me out with mine. The dog contest sounds fun. Hope you'll share some pics!
Well, I'm caught up now and I could have written part of your post. Weather in Maine has been a little erratic as well. The weekend was warm and windy. We had doors and windows open resulting in everything being covered with a thin layer of yellow pollen which has given me allergies like crazy and I didn't even know I had allergies!
It's tough with no central air! I feel your pain. Saturday it's supposed be 110 here. Central is a must. I am sorry you lost a tree. Always my biggest fear when it gets windy here. Hope your allergies are better! Karen
Hope your allergies clear up soon! We have the most gorgeous tree (in huge abundance) around this area called a Museum Palo Verde, but it is a big allergy-inducing source. It becomes an almost neon yellow color in the Spring as it is completed covered in sweet little yellow blossoms that are covered in pollen. They all but glow and then the ground around them becomes totally golden. Between the winds and the time of year, they have just about lost all the blossoms, thank goodness! Sure glad those trees that you lost didn't do much damage -- always sad when a tree falls down. I can't imagine summer without central air, but I know there are still people here who do not have it -- probably the same ones who do not have air-conditioned autos! Have a great time enjoying your summer -- home, lake house, home, lake house......lol!
You poor dear!!! You allergies sound terrible and they are certainly curbing your FUN! I love Layla's attitude!!!! That picture of her watching the front door is priceless! Enjoy the lake... I'm so jealous... in the most complimentary way!
We've had a very different spring this year and allergies are definitely in full mode this spring. When the pollen is at its height I don't open windows or doors in the house! Mary Alice
Sorry your allergies are so bad. Sounds like you've been very busy up at the lake house! Love the hanger with the towels hanging from it. Sorry I've been MIA...I've lost your email (sometimes my gmail just disappears) and with Brian being home on vacation, I'm out of sorts! Like I just said in my latest blog post, I'm discombobulated. :-)Talk to you soon!

Hi Jane! I sympathize with you about the allergies - I have my share too. Oh, can't wait to hear how your little Mr. Handsome does in the show show! Thanks for popping in to see me. Be a sweetie, Shelia ;)
I am so sorry!! I had bad allergies too. I took cleratine and after 2 days I am like new. For the red eye I use similasan stye eye relief. It works like the prescription but over the counter. It saves my eyes a lot. Glad it got cooler. Here it's getting hotter. Xoxo Take care, Love, Isabelle
Sorry you are dealing with allergies....I hope you feel better SOON!!! I have been battling them this year too. Good luck with your pooch in the show :o) ~Des
Hi Jane! Sorry you're allergies have been so bad. I can definitely relate, but this year hasn't been too bad (at least I think it's safe to say). Good luck with your Mr. Handsome!:) Have a wonderful time at the lake! Jennifer:)
Jane, Glad your allergies have gotten better. That no fun for sure. I finally found some that work and don't knock me out. Take care and have a great week.
Hi " Blondie " I'm gonna follow I'm gonna follow, follow, follow one way or another ............ Your newest follower - thanks so much for the visit Jane - can't wait to get to know you! Hugs, Suzan

[Image]Well, it's been awhile since I've been around. When I go this long without posting, even I forget what I've been up to. Okay, weather report. Last week was hot, hot, hot. Any excuse to get out of the house and into the air conditioning was alright with me (we have the old fashioned in the window air conditioners and no one was around to put them in). I was even desperate enough to sit in Firestone while Emily had a tire changed. Yes, desperate. After some wicked weather over the weekend, we are in the 60's and I'm loving it.
We were fortunate enough to make our getaway to the lake on Thursday night...yes, central air! This is Layla watching the front door as we load up the car, always afraid we are going to leave without her. I'm usually on my second wind after the long drive up. At about midnight I was sitting in my rocking chair by the big windows reading when I looked up to hear the wind picking up and the trees were almost bending while leaves swirled around.. A huge storm blew in and although it was a little frightening, it took the hot weather with it.
[Image]The next morning was cloudy and cool, in fact, the whole weekend was. Across the street, my neighbors peonies were sagging on the ground like huge white swans from the rainfall. I grabbed my trusty scissors and cut a few for a pretty bouquet.
Even with the cooler weather, my allergies continue to be terrible. With the wind blowing cotton wood puffs all over the place, I tried to stay indoors as much as possible. I had seen a little DIY project on Pinterest that I wanted to try...I didn't re~pin it since it was pretty simple to figure out, so I don't have a source. .
[Image]I found a wooden hanger (thanks Judy, for offering to send me one!), and I had some gray spray paint in the garage. All I did was give it two coats and I had the hand towels.
[Image]It's in the powder room where I have a slight beachy feel going on...not too much, themes overwhelm me!
[Image]By Sunday I couldn't stand sitting in the house anymore while The Husband kept himself totally occupied playing with his boat in the garage. I took a ride up to the big country farm/nursery we go to for just about everything. It sells plants, garden accessories, groceries, you name it.
[Image]I actually went for some asparagus and came home with a big hanging planter of petunias. Of course I forgot to take a picture. I have a big crock that sits by the patio steps and rather fill the whole thing with soil and thus make it unmovable, I buy a hanging plant that sets down in it perfectly. Beautiful red and white petunias. And I forgot the asparagus.
I have a list of projects a mile long and I totally blame it on the allergies for keeping me from starting on them. Last week they were so bad, I gave myself an eye infection from rubbing them. This weekend my face broke out in hivey blotches. I don't mean to complain about the little aggravations in life, but I'm not the type to just plow through when I feel crappy. Just let me lie on the couch with a cold washcloth and sneeze myself to death. Okay, I finally took care of the front porch, swept the best I could with the wind blowing the leaves everywhere and put my cushions on the furniture. One project leads to another and although I didn't do it, one sunny day I need to scrub them down with Oxy Clean. And my wisteria has to be trimmed big time, the tendrils kept getting caught in my hair and it felt like they were ripping it out. I do have some pretty purple flowers on it, but my gosh, it's wild looking stuff!
[Image]2 weeks ago we lost our beloved birch trees in a storm. It was heartbreaking. They landed in the neighbors yard but caused little damage. They were nice enough to cut it up with a chain saw and now we have this...
[Image]...and a lot more where this came from. Oh, and listen to this! The Husband trimmed the boxwood and I collected a big vegetable basket full of clippings...and then left them here. Grapevine wreath here, clippings there. Sigh. I do have to say that I just may have enough for two or more wreaths. I was really looking forward to working on that this week.
[Image]I cleaned up the hearth a bit and finally put some photos in these Pottery Barn frames I've had forever. I love this picture of Abby kissing Milo on the beach.
[Image]And speaking of Milo, we have plans for next Saturday night at the lake. No, no, no, it's not what you think. It's a big dog festival and I'm entering him under Mr. Handsome! Layla's coming, too, just so she can growl and act indifferent to the other dogs. Can't wait!
So that's been my week. My hives have gone down and after an hour of blowing my nose when I wake up, I'm pretty much okay. I'm sort of behind on all things housekeeping due to the wretched heat last week so I have my day cut out for me. See you soon!
XO,
Jane

Hi Jane! Sorry you're allergies have been so bad. I can definitely relate, but this year hasn't been too bad (at least I think it's safe to say). Good luck with your Mr. Handsome!:) Have a wonderful time at the lake!

Jane, Glad your allergies have gotten better. That no fun for sure. I finally found some that work and don't knock me out. Take care and have a great week.
