Hi Jane... you are happy about snow... I am sick of it!... we have a blizzard again right now... guess that's why Utah's slogan is "the greatest snow on earth"... you would think I'd live in Tahiti or somewhere with my dislike of snow and cold... but... this is my home... okay, I will quit whining on your blog... that's great you get the room for 60% off, yikes!... what a deal!... looks like alot of fun with you, Emily and your nieces... you look so pretty!... and I love the flowery fabric where Milo is laying on the couch (Hello Milo!... doggie kisses!)... your front room is going to be even more beautiful!... hope hubby did not overdo things... men tend to do that... glad you were able to get some logs and keep warm... Tessy is supposed to see the vet tomorrow too for some shots, but the way the snow is coming down, I don't think we will be able to get out... we are having soup for dinner... your roast sounds delish!... stay warm!... Spring is out there... somewhere???... xoxo Julie Marie
I can't believe that you have had so little snow. Being so close to the lake as well. Don't blame your husband for wanting a bigger boat for being on one of those great lakes. They can be wicked. So sorry he isn't feeling well. Happy Birthday coming up. Cute picture of you and the girly girls. I laughed when you said you almost spanked your daughter, hah. Your living rom looks so cozy with you fire going. It sounds like freezing rain ison its way here and will be melting our snow as well. Have a great week. Hope your hubby feels better.
What a lovely post. I always enjoy catching up with you and what you're doing! It rained a little here in Texas this afternoon. Didn't amount to much but it made for nice sleeping weather!
Those fire logs do work pretty well. We use them as a base to start our fires outside in the fire pit on the patio. Just wished they SMELLED like real wood!
Have a good week and I hope your hubby is feeling better!
I am sorry to hear your hubby is not feeling well, hope he rested up and is feeling better. Lots of germs still out there. I think it is wonderful that the banquet lady gave you 60% off! Keep warm, today it was much better than it has been in the past week. Looking forward to a warm up but lots of rain in the forecast. Why can't this darn rain move to the states they really need it?? xo
Jane, our TX winter has been a strange one. We've not had snow, but the temps have been cold until late last week. Really mild now and even got some garden work done today. I'm sure that seem strange to someone living in Chicago. ;-) Looks like you girls had a great lunch.
Hello Jane, Congrats on getting that awesome deal on the room and good luck with the menu:)Hope your hubs starts feeling better soon. This is my birthday week too:)
It's a skating rink out there! What happened to our Chicagoland weather? Gracie needs snow! We went to Water Tower Place this week and I didn't wear a coat. Why would I? We went from our garage to the WTP garage...but everyone kept asking me where my coat was! LOL! I hope your husband feels better soon...there is something creeping about out there!
What a hectic schedule! Sounds like you are getting everything in shape for the shower and wedding. So much tension but so much fun!! Sorry hubby is feeling bad. Hope he's on the mend soon.
Hi Jane, glad you got some snow finally. We still have a little left on the ground but it's supposed to warm up dramatically by the weekend so it won't last long. Love the picture of you with your daughter and nieces! I hope your husband feels better and that your appointments this week all go well!
It has been strange weather here with lots of ups and downs in temps. We are short on moisture like a lot of the midwest. I vote for that dessert in front of that cozy fireplace! Both look pretty inviting. Sorry your hubby is feeling so bad.

I hope the hubby doesn't have the flu Jane! The fabric sounds wonderful, your chairs are going to look so pretty! Have a great week and I hope the hubs feels better! My mom's birthday is next weekend too on the 3rd.
I get exhausted just reading what you are up to, Jane! Sorry to hear your hubby isn't feeling too good. I hope he's not getting the flu. I've been paranoid about getting it this year since my doctor has mentioned the flu shot a couple of times. I've never gotten one and know that as I get older I should probably start to consider it.
Never a dull moment around your place ...it's always fun to read about your world. Sure hope your husband is feeling better... he needs to be all better to help celebrate your birthday next week. Blessings! Geneva
Hi Jane, It has been foggy and a misty rain all day. Just enough to be a pain. The plans for weddings are so much fun. Hope hubby didn't overdo. Sometimes they think they are much stronger then they really are. I didn't stay that long today, just didn't feel to whoopy I don't know if I ate something or what. I didn't need to give it to hubby if I was trying to come down with something. There is so much junk out there and of course, the flu bug going around is not what our flu shots were for. Have a wonderful week and try to stay warm. Hugs and Prayers from your Missouri Friend.

What a lot you've got going on Jane - so much fun ahead with the wedding planning. Stay warm and cosy - and all the best to your husband - I hope he feels better soon.
I'm cold reading this! I think it's warming up here some this week. Looks like a fun day with your young girls --and I hope your husband is feeling better.
So nice to hear all your news Jane! That snow scene is so pretty...we have no shortage where I live! Lol Your lunch date looked fun and scrumptious! Im sure your chair will be lovely with the colour choices you've chosen. Your living room looks so warm & inviting! Love fireplaces! Oh I hope your hubby gets the rest he needs and feels himself again...its the season for so many flus and colds. You have a busy day planned, and please give Milo a hug for me..we have a scottie named Milo too, and 4 other terriers! Your roast sounds yummy...I cooked a turkey last night...who says we cant have turkey any time of year! Lol ;) Have a great week sweet friend!
Hi Jane, We are going to hit 78 degress here in Louisiana today but at least it's not raining! Thanks for the recent visit! I think the yellow Fiesta plate did have some knife marks but it was so bad that it had to be something more, I just don't know what. I hope your husband gets to feeling better! Blessings, Tammy
Oh I hope the hubby feels better! My Daughter isn't feeling good today! Love the picture of you all enjoying time together and that YUMMY dessert:) I would like some of that right now! The snow is soooo pretty! Sometimes we get a late snow but none yet! Can't wait to see the new chairs all fixed up! Enjoy your day dear friend, HUGS!
We had a little bit of ice yesterday morning, then rain and today we are supposed to hit 60 degrees. Tomorrow is going to be in the 60's with storms, ugh.
I also have a sick husband. He is never, ever sick. He hasn't taken a sick day in 37 years except for when he had surgeries. He woke up Friday feeling "off" and by the time he got home, he was miserable. He spent the entire weekend on the couch in the basement and took off work today and called the doctor first thing (unheard of). She said he has the flu and he has been waiting with the rest of the town at Walgreens for medicine for an hour and still isn't home. He just called, sounds like he is dying and I can only imagine what he will be like when he gets here. He seems so stunned to feel so poorly...it just never happens to him. So much for the flu shot...I'm scared to death I'll catch it. I am trying to keep my distance!
The chairs will look great...can't wait to see them. Hope your husband gets better soon!
I'm going to tell you about smaller boats. My husband's friends took a not so small boat to Lake Michigan years ago... the boat capsized with two men swimming to shore... in cold, cold, waters, and one friend didn't make it.These guys were beside themselves with grief. It was one trip my husband didn't go on. After that incident...they all bought big boats. A hard lesson was learned. I love hearing all about your daughter's wedding plans. She's a lucky young lady. Balisha
Hope hubby is feeling better ~ it seems like every time you turn around someone you know is sick this year! I think the new fabric for the chairs sounds wonderful ~ can't wait to see them completed. Brunch sounds great but I understand that it is not in the budget ~ little bugger! Sounds like she has a touch of Cinderella syndrome! Have a good week. xo
I'm up here in Ontario Canada and I think our weather is a lot like yours! Today has been a day of freezing rain. Just enough to make it very dangerous to drive!
Oh and that dessert you posted? I am sitting here freezing beside a fire and now craving ice cream, so thanks for that :)
You certainly have been busy. Lots of things going on for you right now. I can't wait to see how the chair turns out once you redo it. I think most everyone is getting a little tired of winter....but still a long way to go.
I love your newsy posts! Sounds like you've been a busy bee! I am so sorry to hear that your hubby possibly exerted himself and wasn't feeling well. Is he any better since you posted? Has he called his dr.? Guess it's a good thing you didn't go to Cedarburg. You're better off going in the spring anyway; there wasn't much to do up there and too cold to do much walking around. Love the pic of you and your daughter and nieces - you all look great. What's with the rash on your legs; is it eczema? My hubby suffers with that on his rib cage during the winter & for the first time ever, I have it on my forehead and eyelids! What's helping us is pure lanolin. We refuse to use any kind of steroid creme and we don't like things with chemicals in them either. You can get lanolin in liquid or salve form at a health food store. xoxo
You are a busy lady! The plans for your living room sound nice, Jane. Love the soft colors you will be using. Sorry to hear your hubby isn't feeling well. Hopefully he is up, and around now. What a great picture of you, and the girls!! That dessert looks pretty yummy. The weather up here has been crazy. We got almost a foot of snow two days ago. Today it's supposed to be in the 50's! Then back into the ice age by Thursday!! Enjoy your day, sweet friend. xxoo

If you were to take a poll, you'd probably find that < 50% of us run outside to take photos in our pjs, snowboots, & parkas. :) Busy, busy, busy girl. Stay warm and take good care of your sweetie! Hugs, Zuzu
Blondie, You are one busy mommy, wife, and decorator. I love your fireplace, it looks nice with the fire. Your poor husband probably over did his day out.Keep a close eye on him. We have had every kind of weather here in central Indiana, this past week. The storms are coming our way this evening. I just hope not a lot of rain...the water has to go somewhere...I hate the thoughts of flooding and standing water. Take care of yourself, while you are looking out for your family.xoxo,Susie
So fun to catch up on what is happening up in the Windy City! Had to chuckle about wanting to spank your daughter! I would have probably gotten all caught up in the excitement and agreed, and then spent lots of time trying to justify the extra (unnecessary, really) expense. Hope you hubs is feeling better!
I love snow! Reading your post is like reading a letter from a dear dear friend! Your posts are always so full of news, and life and now weather! Always so much fun to stop by!
I am so ready for spring! It's freezing here, too, but due to get warm this weekend. We've had snow on the ground since Oct and I'm pretty much over it =)
The snow has all melted here - pretty mild today, but I think more is expected by the weekend :-) Your living room looks like a nice cozy spot ... especially with sweet Milo ♥
What a busy bee you are, Jane! Wow! I could just picture you standing out there in your jammies. lol! I've done the same thing...pulling out our garbage can. lol! I hope your hubby is feeling better today - and that you escape the 6-10" of snow that we're supposed to get the rest of the week. Ugh.....How many days til spring....??? :)
I read this two days ago Janie and forgot to comment. Boy your fireplace looks so inviting. And that dessert! My gosh that looks so good it's almost sinful. But hey I could sin a little right now. Sorry about Cedarburg...next time we maybe can meet you there. I have cabin fever bad!! Hugs friend, Cindy
Hope you have a terrific birthday! We had terrible storms yesterday. A tornado touched down a few counties over from us. It wreaked havoc! Last Friday, we had freezing rain! This is the craziest weather I've ever seen. Can't wait to see your living room when you are all done! Have a fab weekend!
How fun getting your chairs recovered....I just love getting something new for the house. They sure look like comfy chairs. Hope your honey feels better really soon...bless his heart. We've been lucky this winter *knock on wood*...no colds or flu or anything. Take care.... xo bj
Hope you've been able to get through that chilly weather you've been having. Sounds like you'll have fun redoing your family room. It will feel like a new house again! New upholstery and paint will certainly do the trick.
Janie, You certainly keep yourself busy with all the wedding planning. Funny how we always seem to meet someone who knows someone, etc., etc. Glad it worked out for you and you got a little discount! If I make it in to Chicago in the spring to visit my niece and her hubby who works for the Big 10 Network, I'll be sure to let you know. :-) xo Sue
Jane, I think you are the most energetic person I know! Just to hear what is on your list today would take me days to do. I'm so glad you like the venue for your daughter. You and Emily and your nieces look so cute sitting there. I wish I would have been there for a spoonful of that dessert! I bet you looked too cute standing in the middle of the road taking that photo in your jam-jams Jane.
I love your livingroom! It always looks so warm and inviting. I hope your husband is feeling better by now. sending many hugs...
This has been such a weird winter. The beginning of the week temps were in 50's and we had thunderstorms, now we are in the 20's with snow. Gotta love the Midwest! I hope you have a great Birthday! Also, thank you for your sweet comments on my outfit.
you had me chuckling at, "i nearly spanked her in the parking lot!"

[Image]Hi everyone! I hope all of you are enjoying your weekend. We have been in a deep freeze here but a little warm up is on the horizon, thank goodness. And finally, finally, we got some snow on Friday. I read that Chicago had set a record of 331 consecutive days without a snowfall. It didn't amount to much and now today we are having just the twinges of what the weather people call an ice storm. Little frozen pellets of rain are coming down...not too heavily, thankfully, my girls are working today and I don't like them driving in anything nasty.
[Image]This was my street Friday morning. I was quite a sight standing out there with my parka over my jammies which were shoved in my boots. What I do to provide you with visual entertainment! I hoped to make the most of my day though. Emily and I met with the lady who manages events at the country club where we are having her wedding shower in March. It's a very nice place, it reminds me of a ski lodge with pitched ceilings and beams. Floor to ceiling windows look out at the green. I've been there before for a few parties, The Husband's nephew did much of the woodwork and carpentry in the clubhouse. When I mentioned this to the lady and she recognized the name, she gave us the room for 60% off! Apparently this nephew of ours did her kitchen, too, and she just loves him to death! YES! The only glitch in this meeting was when we were discussing the lunch entrees (which had already been decided on) and Emily piped up and said, "I think I'd rather have a brunch." I thought I was going to fall off my chair. The menu clearly marked the price packages and the brunch was several more dollars per person, upping the total cost by a few hundred dollars. Emily's eyes were dancing and the lady/manager's eyes were gleaming. I did one of those, "We'll get back to you" numbers and we left. I nearly spanked her in the parking lot. And I can assure you, we are NOT having a brunch!
[Image]I mentioned in my last post that my nieces were in town, they live in southern Indiana, just over the river from Louisville. It's been years since I've seen them so we made plans for lunch. Abby had school so it was just Emily and I. Thursday came with the temps in the single digits. We planned on a place near their hotel in downtown Chicago. This is a picture of Lake Shore Drive that day with chilly Lake Michigan in the background. I had on a sweater, a heavy coat with a hood, a scarf, warm boots and gloves. Emily wore a silk shirt under a thin (flimsy) coat and had on flats with her jeans, no socks. I gave her fair warning and after walking one of the four blocks, her teeth were chattering and I gave her everything I had on except my purse!
[Image]Here we are at the Grand Lux Cafe. That is Mindy in the red sweater and Katy behind me. We had a great time and it was such a treat to be out and about. I even did my nails!
[Image]This was the dessert we shared, I can't remember the name of it but it was chocolate cake, a brownie, ice cream, whipped cream and hot fudge poured over all of it. It was insanely delicious!
[Image]Now on to a little decorating news. This chair is in my living room, you've probably seen it in pictures before. There is another matching one by the fireplace. The springs broke on one of them and it was covered under my warranty. My big problem was that the fabric tore on both chairs (as you can see in this picture) and that wasn't covered. So when I'm having the springs repaired, I am having both of them recovered. They are like a dusty rose with a bit of green in those stripes you see there.
[Image]This is the sofa in the same room (Hi, Milo!). I thought I might try to pull out some of the blue you see in the floral with some cream colored fabric with a light blue ticking stripe. I think that will be pretty and give the room a more simplified look. The wall that the fireplace is on is painted a light moss green and I have an area rug in that same mossy color (hate it!), but the walls are being painted next month and I think I am going to go back with the big, thick cream colored rug I had from Orvis a few years ago. The store where we bought the furniture is actually the store where Emily is a designer/salesperson, although we bought this years and years ago. I am popping in on Monday morning to look at the samples. I'll get some pictures to share. I'm really excited. This is so going to update my living room!
[Image]Well, it's still ice pelleting outside. We had a quiet weekend...never went to Cedarburg. The Husband wanted to go to the annual Outdoor & Recreational Show and he did, with his brother. Seems the fishing boat he found on Craigslist last summer is much too small for our big lake, he nearly capsized a few times and never told me. So he's looking at heavier, bigger boats and will try to get one on Craigslist again. I had a bad feeling about that boat, but he truly enjoyed his down time out there fishing so I'm all for him finding another.
The Husband wasn't feeling well when he got home and I thought maybe he exerted himself. We had a simple dinner and then laid in bed reading the Sunday paper together, lights out at 10:00. Today he is weak, tired and aching. He took a nap in the late morning, I found him in bed with his bathrobe over his clothes and under about four quilts. Emily made him eggs and toast for breakfast which he didn't touch. We had soup for lunch and he did eat that. He is back in bed now. The house felt so drafty, for some reason we never ordered a load of firewood in the fall. So I ran out to the store before I started writing my post and bought some of those Duraflame logs and made a fire. They work quite well. I have a roast cooking in the oven and I'm going to start boiling some potatoes when I'm finished here.
Another busy week ahead...a dermatology appointment for the chronic rash on my legs, stopping to pick out that fabric after, a hair appointment, and the dogs yearly check up with the vet. And then next weekend is my birthday! Yay! Another year older and hopefully wiser! See you soon! :)

Your life is so much busier than mine. (I remember those busy days.)
I'm glad you got some yummy ice cream for dessert. I sure would have liked that.
Stay warm, Jane.

Doesn't ice cream taste better when there is snow on the ground :)

January 28, 2013 at 6:02 PM

If you were to take a poll, you'd probably find that < 50% of us run outside to take photos in our pjs, snowboots, & parkas. :)
Busy, busy, busy girl. Stay warm and take good care of your sweetie!
Hugs,
Zuzu

I meant > 50%. :)

I wish we had some snow! All we've had here is ice. And oh my goodness that dessert looks good!

I enjoy reading about your activities with your family.
I hope you husband is on the mend.
I use Duraflame logs too!
They are just right.

I love snow! We don't have it so often here, and when it comes, it is a celebration!
January 29, 2013 at 8:54 PM
I love snow! Reading your post is like reading a letter from a dear dear friend! Your posts are always so full of news, and life and now weather!
Always so much fun to stop by!

That snow looks so pretty and sooo cold but the fireplace looks cozy. Don't you just hate when kids don't get the "look" you try to give them?
January 30, 2013 at 12:06 PM
I am so ready for spring! It's freezing here, too, but due to get warm this weekend. We've had snow on the ground since Oct and I'm pretty much over it =)
January 30, 2013 at 12:33 PM
The snow has all melted here - pretty mild today, but I think more is expected by the weekend :-)
Your living room looks like a nice cozy spot ... especially with sweet Milo ♥

Hugs friend,

Hope you have a terrific birthday! We had terrible storms yesterday. A tornado touched down a few counties over from us. It wreaked havoc! Last Friday, we had freezing rain! This is the craziest weather I've ever seen. Can't wait to see your living room when you are all done! Have a fab weekend!

How fun getting your chairs recovered....I just love getting something new for the house.
They sure look like comfy chairs.
Hope your honey feels better really soon...bless his heart.
We've been lucky this winter *knock on wood*...no colds or flu or anything.
Take care....

Hope you've been able to get through that chilly weather you've been having. Sounds like you'll have fun redoing your family room. It will feel like a new house again! New upholstery and paint will certainly do the trick.
January 31, 2013 at 10:07 AM
Janie, You certainly keep yourself busy with all the wedding planning. Funny how we always seem to meet someone who knows someone, etc., etc. Glad it worked out for you and you got a little discount! If I make it in to Chicago in the spring to visit my niece and her hubby who works for the Big 10 Network, I'll be sure to let you know. :-) xo Sue

All that snow looks so pretty, but I really don't miss it that much! :) That's a pretty fabric for your chairs, a great project for sure!
