Hey Blondie.....sounds like a perfect weekend! My son is coming to visit from Illinois next week and I sure wish he could bring some of your corn. We have a corn field at the end of the Lane but it's just cow corn. And I hear ya' about the volunteers. I had two tomato plant volunteers come up. Sure hope they produce because the one I planted is looking bad. :) Tickled about the marigolds! Mine are coming along nicely too. With this hot weather we are having they will shoot right up. ~ xo
now you've got me hungry, sweet friend! and what a fun, lucky surprise with that zuke! make you some zucchini bread and thank the heavens above for such an innovative little bird:) xo
Love the pictures of your lake life! It always looks so inviting:). Sadly my trip up there isn't gonna happen. I really wanted to meet you! Not going to happen this year, maybe in the Spring. Big hugs, enjoy your evening.
Oh how fun, Janie. Sweet friends that are like family are so nice to have around. I haven't visited lately either. It's been a busy June for us and it's not over yet. We are going to California next. Lovw what you have donoe to your picnic table. So lucky of you to have an Emily!..Christine
Well, do enjoy your visit coming up ~ can't wait to see what ya do! I just LOVE Ella's little Barbie Beach ~ that is really the cutest thing I've seen all day jane :) fun! Looking at that zucchini flower, I think of a show I watched last night where they battered those flowers and ate them...so, you should pluck it and try it ~ lol! Lovin' succulants this year as well...did you know you can by a huge lot of them on Etsy? you should check it out...I love them because as hard as I try, I just can't kill 'em ~ ha! Enjoy your week Jane!!
Hey Miss Jane, love your unique and large-hearted blog! Always enjoyable to read about your fun and delightful life! Oh that corn looks scrumptious Blondie!
One thing I crave in the summertime is really good SWEET corn, but it's hard to come by around here. It's either too tough or not sweet enough for my taste. I'm never satisfied! ;) Glad to know that life in your corner of the world is just dandy!
Things are looking so pretty! YUM the summer corn has been outstanding this year. Hope the time at the lake was fantastic. We're heading out to the lake too. The boat, the 5th wheel & the GRANDS! Summer ROCKS! Enjoy~ Charlene
Hi Jane, With the hot weather we have been having it is a perfect way to spend the weekend. We haven't had any sweet corn yet. I haven't gone to our farmers market. Hubby is back in the wheel chair and I try not push him much in the heat. We may get some rain, but I am not really counting on it. Have a great day. Hugs Your Missouri Friend.
Ah, summer - isn't it grand? I love being outdoors and planting flowers and enjoying the patio. I would love to live by a beach or have a boat though! Have a great time in Galena - you know that's one of my favorite spots!
Yay...can't wait! Seriously dear, I am so in need of this get-away! Love your patio, new pots, flowers and restaurant pics! How nice of you to share your lake house...you two are just wonderful like that! Can't wait to see you! I tried to get a room for Friday night too but they were booked. Oh well, we will have Sat. and Sunday and that will be just fine. I need to get your cell phone number again, can you e-mail me it. Hugs friend, Cindy
Sounds like you made some good memories at the lake! We're getting very hot temps here today too. Yikes! Wish I had the breeze off of a lake to enjoy being outdoors.
It is always fun to share time with good friends. That corn on the cob looks yummy and is making me hungry. It is a bit early here for ear corn so I'll have to wait.
Your sumer has started off very *fun* LOVE this post...and that BBQ joint looks *great* I know what you mean about the lake...what is it about the water that makes us hungry and exhausted??? ;P
I love hearing about your lake house and your friends. I know you all have such a great time. Trips to the lake are some of my favorite vacations. :) hugs, bj
You're one busy gal! Sounds like great summer fun! Lucky you with the zucchini just pooping up! I'd like to try and grow some succulents as well. I think they might be easy enough for me to keep alive! Have fun on your upcoming trip! Jen
Jane, the garden party setting is just gorgeous. You do have a view.
What a lovely weekend with friends. Corn looks deelish!

Hi Jane! Oh, love seeing your plants and isn't that something about your stray veggie popping up! How nice to have fun times with friends. "Snow" is such an unusual name. I like your new little photo of the back of your head and your pretty blondie hair! ;) Be a sweetie, shelia ;)
OH, Jane - what a great thing to have, a lake house. I have a question... I notice you don't move there "for the summer"... is there a reason? Not that it's my business.. it's always been a dream of mine to have something like that, and I always wonder what it's like.
Hello Jane... as always, your post is full of so much good food and fun!... that corn on the cob looks delish!... love all your plants, especially your little succulents... also love your new profile pic!... xoxo Julie Marie
I love summer weekends like that! Speaking of Summer... I'm having a Summer Time Giveaway on my blog this week if you get a chance to go over and enter. Its a $50.00 gift certificate for NOVICA. Thanks... Keep Cool!
Looks like another grand weekend at the lake, spending quality time with favourite people. It doesn't get better than that! Have fun in Illinois, I'll be back to see the pix soon.
Looks like you have been busy, having fun and planting flowers, and my, that corn looks beautiful! I hope you have many pleasant weekends at your lake house this summer and not too much heat like we are having here!
Looks like a fun time. I know you'll have a great visit with Cindy, too. BTW, that corn looks fantastic..we've been having corn on the cob almost every day - love that in the summer! Linda
Jane, been trying to catch up on your recent posts this afternoon. I've had limited computer time ~ away from home. ;-) Your lake property looks summer ready. How nice to have this retreat to enjoy and for entertaining family and friends.
We are having some of that local sweetcorn with BLT's for dinner...local tomatoes too. I do love summer veggies in the Midwest. It is supposed to be 101 tomorrow and Thursday...ugh. I don't even like storms, but a nice long rain would certainly help. We haven't had even the little bit you all have had up there. Everything is burning up!

[Image]Happy Summer! Wow, I can't believe it has been over a week since I last posted. We had a four day weekend at the lake and just got home yesterday. If I haven't visited you, I promise I will try. Time is just flying by! Before I get to the antics up at he lakehouse, I am sharing some pictures of the work I have been doing here. The patio got a good clean up and I planted flowers for two days straight with the help of Emily. I have no doubt that when she is married and has a home of her own, it will be beautiful!
[Image]The celosia really pops on the table. I found this little candle holder at Homegoods. The pots are from Pier 1.
[Image]I found some neat succulents at my garden center and decided I would try my hand at growing a few. They are very inexpensive and fit perfectly in a pot from Home Depot. I sound like a talking ad for these places but this was the year I had to really break down and replace a lot of my pots and planters that were beyond chippy!
[Image]I know this looks like an eggplant but it is actually a zucchini that I found randomly growing in my herb garden! I can only assume that a bird dropped a seed. What an innovative way to plant a garden! Am I a lucky girl or what!
[Image]All work and no play is not the Blondie way! We took a break and went to one of my favorite places for barbecue Thursday night.
[Image]Everything is cooked on a wood stove. I had the spicy Greek sausage and The Husband had the ribs. It all comes with pasta salad and Texas toast.
[Image]I love looking at all the memorabilia. What a nice break. Have I mentioned that it has been in the 90's all week? I didn't need an evening in the kitchen after all the yard work!
[Image]We loaned the lakehouse to our friends, The Millers for a little vacation of their own. They had been there several days when we arrived on Friday. This is 4 year old Ella. She is just a ray of sunshine. I love hanging out with her!
[Image]All of The Husband's hard work on the beach really paid off as you can see. Ella had a ball making sandcastles and playing with her little dolls and critters.
[Image]The Husband usually mans the grill alone, but this time he let Snow assist him. The Miller's have an Italian butcher and get all their meats and cheeses and spices from him. Snow makes cantaloupe wrapped in prosciutto that is just so refreshing on a hot day.
[Image]Corn from the Midwest is the best!! Have I mentioned that our local farmers grow corn and beans for the Green Giant brand? Ho Ho Ho!
[Image]This is the Miller family; Ella, Snow, Luke and Craig.
[Image]And here is the happy couple. They are fun and helpful and just like family.
Sometimes when I come home from the lake, I feel like a child that has had too much time outdoors and just needs a good long nap! We took boat rides, swam, rode bikes and ate...a lot! Oh, summer fun! Now I have rto recover and get ready for our weekend in Galena, Illinois with Cindy and Dan from Applestone Cottage. I'll be sharing a lot of pictures next week...this is sure to be a wonderful time. Until then, stay cool and enjoy this first day of summer. I will see you soon! :-)
