The guys finally finished up our newly renovated deck today and I can start moving the furniture back on it so we can enjoy our meals out there in this fabulous weather. Hi Jane. I have been enjoying these cooler days as well. YOu can tolerate those 80 degree days when the evenings are cooler. I swept my porch just a bit ago. Our yard is a mess from the heat and the storms. Think I need some mums to spruce up the yard. I ussed to cross stitch all the time. I don't think I could now. I did do a needlework sampler in an Amy Powers class. I am now working on a Sarah Jane pattern. It didn't transfer well.....using a iron.....so it hasn't been easy. Where did I find the time when the kids were little.
Hi Blondie, your ivy is beautiful! It stayed warm enough here this past winter that my ivy actually did as well in the winter months as it did this summer! I am so ready for fall, cooler temps, and more time to blog.
We're really thinking of fall around here, though we are still in the 80's. I love your little Christmas cross stitch, I've been working on a Christmas/winter one too. It's so fun to do when you're wishing for cooler temperatures!

Hi Jane...oh, your day sounds so wonderful! I want to be sitting out on my patio with a cup of coffee tomorrow morning, but I don't think that's going to happen. I hate to whine & complain, but tomorrow is one of my work days. I have not liked my job for the 6 years and 4 months that I have been there, & it just keeps getting worse. I had a horrendous day today & I'm practically having a panic attack just thinking about going in tomorrow. Well, enough of that...your flowers still look great. I love impatiens; they seem to hang on for quite awhile! Enjoy your cookbooks...I still have a few new ones that I haven't even cracked open yet. My reading pile is a mile high!

Isn't it funny how we should have more time and yet we get less done. I do agree that the Me time is important. You work hard all your life and raise your kids then you should be taking time to sit and read those books and sip that coffee. Me? I have about 8 cross stitch projects that I should be working on. I have stitched that same exact sampler pattern! I sewed mine onto mini guest towels for the bathroom. I think I sewed these over 25 years ago! My, MY! How time flies! Hope you get yours done by Christmas! I remember stitching mine in the summertime.
Have you ever heard of the King Ranch Casserole? A long time recommendation from Texas cooks. :) We had some cooler temps but now is warming up again. I think tomorrow the cool air returns, perhaps with a bit of rain. I love it!
I'm redoing my bedroom and that has been keeping me busy. My s-i-l is going to put together my new headboard tomorrow evening so hopefully I will be finished soon. I painted my nightstand this aft but have to do the finishing "touch" with a bit of bling tomorrow.

We got a cool front today so I too am feeling a bit more like fall decorating. I fixed a ham in the slow cooker tonight. With mashed potatoes & cooked cabbage. Kind of a cool weather meal. HUBBY loved it.

I love my lazy days!I try and give myself at least one day a week to do what ever I want..if it's alot of stuff or nothing at all.....just lounging around and resting and relaxing!!Our days are so busy...I need this one day a week!!! I know what you mean about casseroles for the cooler months. I have a great list of twenty recipes or so in my side bar (near the top) with some easy and delicious slow cooked meals.
One is Lemon Moroccan Chicken, which is fabulous another is Slow cooked lamb shanks with lentils, which is particularly easy and delicious.... only about 6 ingredients. Carolynxx
I do love a good casserole and I just bought hamburger meat today to make our favorite...well, we have 2 favorites,actually. One is like a Mexican casserole and the other...well, a ground beef casserole. I'll get you the recipes if you like. I am hungry for a hearty beef stew...crusty bread...killer green salad...fudge brownies...ummmmm, I'm hungry.
We are having some of those cooler mornings & evenings, too, but no where close to 52....lol! Your flowers look beautiful, and your backyard looks like a lovely haven!

[Image]Hi everyone! I hope you are enjoying your week so far! The weather has been gorgeous here...crisp, cool and dry. I sat outside with the dogs this morning having my coffee and as I looked around at my flowers, I thought how they seem to be loving this weather, too! Normally my inpatiens are overflowing out of this old barrel but they struggled all summer due to the heat. But they are little fighters it seems!
[Image]This pot was in the shade of the hedges all summer and did quite well. My patio needs a good sweep, but I'll save that for another day! This was just a nice break to get out and breathe the fresh morning air and watch Milo and Layla roll in the grass!
[Image]As I mentioned in my last post, I have been going through my cookbooks looking for some great cool weather recipes. I have really been gravitating toward casseroles for some reason. I get the same gratification of chopping vegetables and mixing things up as I do when I make soups and stews, but you can't beat the creaminess of a hearty casserole. Once I choose a few and get my ingredients in order, I will share some with you. Does anyone have a tried and true recipe they want to pass on?
[Image]It's quiet around here with Emily working and Abby going to school and working at the pub a lot of evenings. I keep myself busy with an equal share of housecleaning, laundry, trying to organize clutter (!), as well as things I love to do for ME! I'm plowing through book after book and I recently picked up a sampler that I started last year hoping to get done with in time for Christmas. It didn't happen so I am going to try to devote a little time each evening to get it finished by December. It's a cute wintry scene and will be perfect to bring out each year during the holidays. Ironically, I used to do a lot of stitching when the kids were younger and I had less free time. I guess we need to carve out that "alone" time, even if it's during their nap!
I've really been enjoying my visits to your blogs. All the fall decorating is inspiring me. I might add a thing or two every year if it really catches my eye, but it really is all about creating something new and fresh with what you have. I hope to get started on that closer to the end of the month (which is flying by!).
So, this is just a short post on one of my lazy days! I'm having a cup of coffee while the dishwasher hums and a fall candle makes everything smell yummy! Hope you are having a wonderful day, too! :-)

I love having a little time to catch up on all the projects I've started, and you're doing the same thing. Now get to work on that sampler. It is adorable.

What is it about fall that makes me want to cook, too? And sew,etc. Maybe it's kind of a nesting thing, getting ready for winter. Anyway, I agree, the flowers love this weather! Linda

I love my lazy days!I try and give myself at least one day a week to do what ever I want..if it's alot of stuff or nothing at all.....just lounging around and resting and relaxing!!Our days are so busy...I need this one day a week!!!
Your plants look great and i am sure fall is right around the corner for you!!!Not us.....
I love fall...I will begin decorating for fall probably this week...it is after all coming up on Sept. 21 or 22nd....I love my fall stuff more then my Halloween things...but I know my Grand daughter looks forward to all the decorations!!!

Everything is always so peaceful & lovely to visit with you Jane. The stitchery is going to be so pretty when done ... would love to see it in place.
Finally, our bleeding heat has a crisp touch of autumn, misty morns & season changes amongst the plants. So love each season for its individual beauty.

I know what you mean about what I accomplished when the kids were little versus now. I think I was driven then and relaxed now, and truthfully, relaxed is better so it is all good.

Jane, your planters still look good. Most of my Impatiens are looking ratty now. Guess I should replace them with something Fall-ish. I'm ready for casseroles too, now that it isn't too hot to turn on the oven. I'm sending you one of our favorites. If you don't get it, the email address I have for you may be wrong.

I know what you mean about casseroles for the cooler months. I have a great list of twenty recipes or so in my side bar (near the top) with some easy and delicious slow cooked meals.
One is Lemon Moroccan Chicken, which is fabulous another is Slow cooked lamb shanks with lentils, which is particularly easy and delicious.... only about 6 ingredients.

I do love a good casserole and I just bought hamburger meat today to make our favorite...well, we have 2 favorites,actually. One is like a Mexican casserole and the other...well, a ground beef casserole. I'll get you the recipes if you like.
I am hungry for a hearty beef stew...crusty bread...killer green salad...fudge brownies...ummmmm, I'm hungry.
