Good Morning to you in your chilly town! Love your silver tea set and I don't like to polish it either! A few years ago, I was going into a shoe store and saw a silver tray sticking out of the trash can! It was tarnished and looked REALLY bad! I grabbed it, brought it home, polished it up and it turned out really beautiful! Enjoy your week and take time to rest a little:) HUGS!
Aren't you the lucky one! The silver tea service is lovely in its coat of patina. I admit that mostly I polish my silver, but I also like it with the patina of age. Depends on my mood. I'm making pecan pie and pumpkin pie for our dessert. Hope your Thanksgiving is full of joyful abundance! ~ Sarah

I make a chocolate trifle that my nephew adores. Make a 9 x 13 pan of fudge brownies. Once they've cooled, poke with fork and pour coffee liquor over the top.
Break up half the brownie into bottom of trifle dish and layer with chocolate mousse, cool whip, and crushed toffee (like Heath or Skor), repeat layers and chill.
This is very rich but pretty and YUMMY! Shoot, I just made myself hungry. :o)

I don't polish silver (well, hardly ever) either. I love the tarnished look. Hubby doesn't get it- he likes bright and shiny. The tea set is lovely. The setting is very cozy. It is very cold here today-60 degrees. I'm almost frozen-hehe. Actually, I am a wimp now. Can't believe i grew up in Mi. The blood does get thinner.
The candle holder looks very vintage. You are craftier than you think.
Hi ya Jane! Love that candle! I've been meaning to do the same...only I thought I'd take the sheet music and put it directly on a candle....(a la pottery barn!) Love the silver - we are silver collectors as well. In fact, we last night we designed a Christmas tree with old silver, tarnished & polished. My children polish our silver evry year just before Chrismtas as one of their Chrismtas jobs! It helps them save up for Christmas goodies they want to buy.

Your candles made me think about the candles I saw at a craft show that was battery operated. They called them grunzie candles. They were definitely. Oh Jane, I love your little sheet music candle holder! I will have to try that. Also, if you go to a good fabric store and ask for silver cloth, you will never be polishing your silver again. I wrap all of my trays, flatware, and whatnot in it and at worst, I have to polish some little tiny spot that maybe was sticking out of the cloth. My mom always did this and she never had to polish either.

I love that little wrapped candle- such a nice touch! My husband is making a pumpkin cheesecake, a pumpkin pie and a an apple pie. He wanted to make a pecan pie, but we are going to someone elses house for Thanksgiving and I thought everyone would prefer pumpkin. Hope you have a nice Thanksgiving!

Jane, I love your candle. It is really cute. It will be perfect for thanksgiving and Christmas. You talking about not wanting to polish the silver makes me laugh. I have never had Thanksgiving at my house. And I have used the good dishes but not like this year. I think it took me around 4 hours to set this table up. I couldn't believe it took so long. Happy Thanksgiving Jane! Love your silver and the little music sheet candle...it has inspired me! :) In a pinch I've polished my sterling silverware with a trick I learned -well, I don't remember where- but in a glass baking dish in the sink, lay aluminum foil on the bottom then sprinkle with baking soda, add water and lay the silver on top. In just a few minutes the tarnish will go to the foil and your silverware will be shinier! It's not as perfect as polishing but it will be better than it was, and faster:) Have a wonderful Tday!!

I didn't recognize your new avitar. When I got close up I could see it was so cute. Your silver tea set is beautiful, and you always make candles look so special. When I first got married in 1972 I received all kinds of trays, servers and tea sets in silver. I was soooooo young, I exchanged them for modern things. I wish I had been wiser. I think your salsa and sheet music candles are beautiful. I would have never guessed it was a salsa jar! It made me want to get out the sheet music and make some of my own. I polished a little silver for Thanksgiving and ran out of polish so I didn't use the rest. Not worth going to the store for and a great excuse to stop polishing it:>) lol

[Image]Happy Tuesday everyone. It has been a busy few days around here and only to get busier as we get ready for Thanksgiving. I have to run to the store for some last minute items and then tomorrow I can start cooking. I still have not figured out what I am going to make for dessert. I think I may try to do a trifle; I have a dish that was given to me as a gift years ago that I have never used. Something chocolate would be heavenly. Now to go through some cookbooks or shop the Food Network. I can't believe I put off making something because I had big plans to make and freeze some things. Oh well, there is always Christmas.
[Image]I set up a little tea this morning and I am joining Lady Katherine for the first time. You can visit her at Lady Katherine Tea Parlour for the party she hosts every Tuesday. Like the rest of you {most likely}, I've had some silver to polish for the holidays. Last year my son got up from the table and pulled out some flatware for himself because the silver was so tarnished. I was using a creamy type polish and it just wasn't cutting it, so I bought some liquid stuff that you have to use with gloves ...it sounds nasty. So I am not looking forward to this. Why I didn't do this sooner, I think I thrive on stress. But I digress. Last summer my friend Snow saw at lot of my silver up at the lakehouse on my hutch and said, "If you like silver, I have a ton of it and I hate to polish." That's all she had to say. A few days later she brought some pieces over and it included this tea set. [Image]This has to polished up but let's just say it has a patina. I have two other tea sets but they aren't as large as this. I had fun setting up this little vignette in my living room. I should have made a fire; it's only 32 degrees here in Chicago. [Image]My tea cup and saucer are part of a set of china called Marquis that I found at an estate sale about 2 years ago. The silver spoon is part of a mismatched bunch. The thingie on the right is actually a mercury glass squash that I am using with my fall decor. It's hard to tell just what it is.
Yesterday I was fiddling around and trying to be crafty with some empty jars I have been saving. I took some sheet music and made a little candle holder which is in my first picture and the one above. I just wrapped it around a clean salsa jar and used some glue. Then I tied a little piece of jute around it and plopped a tea light in it. It pretty much cost me pennies. I'm looking forward to some extra time to make some more. I think they would look good grouped together or lined up in a row. I have been seeing similar {if not the same} candles around Blogland for quite some time. I was really inspired.
Saturday The Husband and I went to the Holiday Market in Morris, Illinois, and really had a good time. Everything I bought was for Christmas, so you will have to wait {with bated breath I'm sure} to see everything. I was amazed at the talent I saw there. If I were a craftier person or one who could sew, I would have walked away with some inspiration. But I'm neither. I didn't take pictures because it was so crowded and I wasn't really sure if the vendors would like it. And though I was aware that there were other bloggers there, I didn't recognize any...of course. How could I? I did see Anne Marie from Na Da Farm With Anne Marie and was bold enough to approach her. We had a nice time talking and I want to say she is as nice and pretty as you see on her blog. She has a barn sale every spring and fall, so if you live in the Chicago area, try to make it. I am putting it on my calendar, I'm not missing it.

I don't polish silver (well, hardly ever) either. I love the tarnished look. Hubby doesn't get it- he likes bright and shiny.
The tea set is lovely. The setting is very cozy. It is very cold here today-60 degrees. I'm almost frozen-hehe. Actually, I am a wimp now. Can't believe i grew up in Mi.
The blood does get thinner.
The candle holder looks very vintage. You are craftier than you think.

Hi ya Jane! Love that candle! I've been meaning to do the same...only I thought I'd take the sheet music and put it directly on a candle....(a la pottery barn!) Love the silver - we are silver collectors as well. In fact, we last night we designed a Christmas tree with old silver, tarnished & polished. It is for a fundraiser this weekend - we'll post pictures next week...it was really fun!

My children polish our silver evry year just before Chrismtas as one of their Chrismtas jobs! It helps them save up for Christmas goodies they want to buy.

Love the sheet music on the jars. I have done something similar. I love sheet music projects. I actually bought an old hymnal at a thrift store and have loved using that for different things.

Hi Jane, I don't know about your temperature, but ours is dropping all day. We are suppose to get down to 23 tonight. Your candles made me think about the candles I saw at a craft show that was battery operated. They called them grunzie candles. They were definitely. Oh Jane, I love your little sheet music candle holder! I will have to try that. Also, if you go to a good fabric store and ask for silver cloth, you will never be polishing your silver again. I wrap all of my trays, flatware, and whatnot in it and at worst, I have to polish some little tiny spot that maybe was sticking out of the cloth. My mom always did this and she never had to polish either.

I love that little wrapped candle- such a nice touch! My husband is making a pumpkin cheesecake, a pumpkin pie and a an apple pie. He wanted to make a pecan pie, but we are going to someone elses house for Thanksgiving and I thought everyone would prefer pumpkin. Hope you have a nice Thanksgiving!

I love your candle. It is really cute. It will be perfect for thanksgiving and Christmas. You talking about not wanting to polish the silver makes me laugh. I have never had Thanksgiving at my house. And I have used the good dishes but not like this year. I think it took me around 4 hours to set this table up. I couldn't believe it took so long. I polished all the silver!LOL Oh, and ironed the napkins. My husband laughed and said ya those 50's housewives didn't have it so easy did they? Men! Have a great Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving Jane! Love your silver and the little music sheet candle...it has inspired me! :)
In a pinch I've polished my sterling silverware with a trick I learned -well, I don't remember where- but in a glass baking dish in the sink, lay aluminum foil on the bottom then sprinkle with baking soda, add water and lay the silver on top. In just a few minutes the tarnish will go to the foil and your silverware will be shinier! It's not as perfect as polishing but it will be better than it was, and faster:)

When I first got married in 1972 I received all kinds of trays, servers and tea sets in silver. I was soooooo young, I exchanged them for modern things. I wish I had been wiser. I think your salsa and sheet music candles are beautiful. I would have never guessed it was a salsa jar! It made me want to get out the sheet music and make some of my own. I polished a little silver for Thanksgiving and ran out of polish so I didn't use the rest. Not worth going to the store for and a great excuse to stop polishing it:>) lol
