your grand puppy is so sweet, lots of work but so sweet, your flowers look wonderful, the picnic table is perfect and I am like you in that I rarely make large purchases like that on my own, maybe we both nee to do this more often, lol, keep our husbands on their toes!
Awwwwwwww...that picture of Tulo is so precious, and no, you are going to be a wonderful grandmother! I couldn't help but crack up thinking about what he did. Such a typical 'boy'.
I staying away from the yard...too much poison ivy and I don't want to take any chances before the wedding. Maybe when you're finished with your place you can hop on a flight and come east and take care of my really, really, ugly yard?
Btw, I love lobelias too. So feminine and airy! Just wish they were perennials.
Hello Jane, I haven't been visiting around much too...just so dang busy with my business and doing a lot of yard work. I too, love to work out in my yard. Love the story about your granddog...I can soooo relate! Have fun at the late with all your family...we will be attending a family reunion out in the country.
All your flowers look so pretty, Jane. The puppy is adorable, but I know what a handful they can be. I see you had the time down almost to the second! : ) Nice find on the table. I think some husband's do get hurt when a "big" purchase is made with their input. Although, I have to admit I would want in on the decision for something "big", especially for the house. Go relax ~ you deserve it!
Jane, it's looking good out there, especially when you can add cute props like your dog and granddog! Love the picnic table too - you go, girl!
For the planter that you want some height, how about adding a single dracaena spike in the center, and then maybe a little diamond frost on each side of it? I think you could squeeze them in there; 4" pots should do it, and you could even split the d. frost one. They do well in sun, and would fill in the back nicely, nice and airy, but not overwhelm it. I'm taking the day off from the yard, but it's a bit of an obsession every time I walk outside - always something to do. Happy gardening!
Good for you on the picnic table--it looks really nice and who can argue with not having to pick it up or assemble it? And what a cute puppy. They are exhausting aren't they? But make you smile at the end of the day as you so said so nicely!
Love all of your pretty flowers:) My favorite is the picket fence planter, LOVE IT! That is ONE PRECIOUS little Grandpup! It is a lot of work to keep things blooming but you are doing an awesome job:) Have a blessed day dear Jane, BIG HUGS from Georgia!
God must have made puppies so cute so you would forgive the naughtiness, because that naughty little Tulo sure is cute! Lol I have been busy in the yard too. We are hosting a Christian Education appreciation dinner this friday for the workers in our church's children's department so I want the area by the garden where the tables will be set up to look good, and it does! It sure takes a lot of time though. Have youtried raised bed gardening? We abandoned our big tilled garden several years ago, it was too far from the house so it got neglected, and added raised beds. We love the look and ease of taking care of them!
Yes your puppy grand dog is cute however in that terrible chew up everything stage which is hard to deal with thanks for stopping by my post on my old dolls they are from late 1800's I am sure. I never knew why they had the old gauze like material wrapped around them? maybe they used that for body padding?
Hi Jane, I have been trying to catch up with friends this morning. I have enjoyed catching up with you. I hope you don't have rain at the lake and I am hoping that we don't have any here. I decided against trying to have any flowers. I just don't have time for them. I enjoyed your trip. Have a wonderful day. Hugs and Prayers from your Missouri Friend.
Blondie, Your thumb is going to turn green ...LOL. Oh my gosh, that pup would have worn me out. You need something called a masonary screw to use on brick, I would use a small diameter also. You do not want to break the brick...scary. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
Can just see you and the grandpuppy out in the yard!! LOL Be sure and read my post this evening about Grandparents. Your post made me think about this post I wrote last night and am posting today.
Your plants look great. It's so much work tho. Love your new picnic table.

Blondie I have the same breed of puppy. Our puppy is 10 months old. We named him Seger. He is a joy and a handful too. He did get the potty training down easy. It helps when you have another dog and they go out together. They love to chew on things so we have alot of toys for him to play with. The mother of the puppy is from Traverse City Mi and she breed with a dog in the Battle Creek area and his name was Dazzle. The mother just had her second litter on May 27th and my brother and sister in law gets the pick of the litter. They are exited. The yard looks good with all that your doing.
Thanks for opening up so us non bloggers can commit.
You have been pre-occupied! Tulo does seem quite a handful, so hopefully, once he's house broken, your relationship with him will so much better! ;-) I suggest putting something circular in the middle of your planter, a clock? anything decorative that's made of terracota or steel. Have a fun weekend on the lake, you do have a lot to celebrate about. I'm dropping of our son to Camp on Fathers day, so it will be bittersweet. :-)
Aren't puppies the most fun? They are such a handful. They play and play and then just plop and fall asleep. Love the new picnic table. Wonderful place to visit and enjoy your beautiful yard. Have a lovely weekend, Balisha
Hi Jane, Your little grand puppy is a real cutie and I can just imagine that he needs constant supervision. Love all your planting too. It's just way to hot here to do much outside. Seems every time I look at my plants they are wilting an needing water. Hope you have fun at the Lake.
Your garden looks great, Jane. I'm going to try to copy that planter with the picket fence around it. It's adorable...and speaking of adorable, Tulo is a cutie. A spunky little guy! Hope your week is going well. Enjoy your new picnic table! Hugs, Beth
Tulo is one cute puppy, but they can get in trouble quicker than a rabbit turding! Like you I've been spending my time out in the garden, it seems like I get one area weeded, head to another and the one I weeded before is weedy again? I can't keep up. We spent 3 days getting out pond up and running again, I'm so happy. Gardening is the best work I've ever done, but my body is achy all over.
Your garden is looking so pretty, Janie, and it's making me miss mine. Your grand puppy is very cute, lol. Thank you so much for your continued prayers for Rea. I am staying with Rochelle now which is a little over a 2 hr drive from Tina, who lives next door to the house we bought. Anyway, after Rea comes home, we all plan to go there so the girls can swim....Christine
Oh Jane--you're never boring--I love the way you write. If that puppy wasn't so darned cute, he'd be in the doghouse. BUT...he's stinkin' cute--well, your house is probably stinkin', too, with him using it for his bathroom. Human grandchildren, well, they're different, nessy, too, but somehow you can get more attached to them! And you can give them back when you need to! I've been looking forward to you posting again. In the meanwhile, I've read your whole blog! :) Trudy
Oh by the way, I've lived in the 1950s forever, always feeling as if I had to get permission to buy anything, but since I don't have any money to spend--it hasn't been a real big thing. I just wonder how we're going to live at all when our tiny retirement runs out--we spend it all every month on insurances, prescriptions, and electricity and food. Ah, retirement-NOT what we thought it would be!
Jane, You always make me smile gf! Yes, being a grandma is a bit like chasing after a puppy! It's probably why I am always so tired. I love all your flowers and plantings, boy have you been a busy one. My fave is that picket fence planter...oh cute! I want to get blogging again, so maybe I can get a post up. All I have done lately is sew, babysit Addison and my flowers...that desperately need weeding right now. We need to get a date huh? Hugs gf, Cindy
I LOVE the garden sign that's attached to the hoe! I also like the sign in your little cottage garden in front of the little bench. Isn't it a labor of love to be out in your yard all day, Jane? Then to be able to wake up the next day, and look out the windows to see all the pretty plants, and flowers? So worth the time, and effort. Your pots, and planters are all wonderful! The new one with the Lobelia is so unique!! Have a grand time at your lake house, Jane!! You've waited so long to get up there this year. I bet you have some lovely flowers waiting for you when you arrive. Debbie xoxoxo

I'm finally catching up with your blog...I think all your gardening work looks great. That "grow" planter is very unique and cool! I love lobelia too. [Image]Boy, I have really been out of the loop for awhile. I am really trying to visit everyone in spite of not posting, if you haven't heard from me... you will soon, I hope. Oh, I have been wanting to mention, I used to have a block on comments which required you to have a blog in order to comment here. Well, I lifted that after thinking about it...I mean all of my readers can't have blogs! Duh! So, if you haven't been able to comment before, feel free to do so. As long as I don't get a lot of spam I will keep it like this.
Anyway, I have been up to my ears in gardening and a lot else has gone to the wayside as a result. I'm spending hours outside weeding, planting pots, watering, sweeping up birdseed. That bird feeder has become a battleground. The sparrows scare the wrens and the cardinals scare the sparrows. They line up on my porch railing waiting their turns. I'm filling the feeder everyday and what I sweep up I toss into the grass. They are everywhere!! The Husband politely suggested I move the feeder near a tree and I said, "No! I want be able to hear them!" To which he replied, "I don't think you want to hear what they are saying."
Take a close look at the sign above. It's attached to an old hoe. I'm trying to nail it to the house, but it's really difficult to hammer nails into brick. I've done it before though, just have to hunt for the right nails. Again, The Husband sighs at my outdoor decor and swears one more nail is going to make the house crumble down.
[Image]I am going to be a terrible grandmother. I know it. This past weekend convinced me when I had my newest grandog for 32.6 hours. I was really looking forward to it and was up and ready early for him with all sorts of plans for the day. When my son dropped Tulo off he said, "Keep him outside. In fact, keep him outside all day." I thought, hmmmm, that's strange but I had a lot of flowers to plant so I figured that would work. Within the first five minutes I found Tulo chewing on the hose. Once I got him away from that he was digging in one of my big whiskey barrels filled with potting soil. I stared in disbelief as he got on top, dug a shallow hole and plopped himself down in it. He was covered in dirt, in fact, I think he ate some.
So I brought him inside, I figured he'd do less damage there. Well at 8 weeks you can pretty much figure he's not housebroken and he proceeded to relieve himself on my living room area rug. By the time I came back with paper towels, he was doing #2 next to the spot.
[Image]We went back outside and I managed to plant some pots while simultaneously rescuing the little monster from near death. Thankfully Milo wore him out...they get along great. By 5:00, I gave up planting, gathered up all the flowers Tulo had snatched and spread around the yard, and sat down with a cold one. And then I saw him lying in a corner of the patio behind my honeysuckle, totally worn out.
[Image]And my little heart broke. Maybe this is how a grandmother feels, just not used to running after a toddler, constantly pulling them from harm's way. And then you lay them down for the night and see their sweet little faces (this one with whiskers and a contented smile on his face), and your heart just melts. Awww, Tulo, we have a long road ahead of us, Pal.
[Image]I am really proud of this picnic table. We needed one really bad as the one we had rotted in a lot of spots and the wrought iron base had rusted beyond saving. I really wanted more seating for the family for when I start to have barbeque's (still working on The Husband for that grill). I researched them online and I found this at Lowe's for a super price. And it was free delivery, totally assembled. That was good as we don't have a truck handy and The Husband refuses to put anything together. I really had my peacock feathers rustling after it came because I sort of made a 'major' purchase on my own without consulting anyone. Have you ever done anything like that? I don't know, maybe I'm still living in the 1950's. And I know The Husband definitely is living back in that era. He's a "Make do or do without" sort of person. And no, he wasn't a happy camper. Not so much about the table...maybe that I had done something like this without 'needing him'. Finally, after a few days, I was sitting out there at my new little picnic table by my lonesome, flicking through a magazine, when he came out and joined me with two cold Summer Shandy's, a peace offering if you will. :)
[Image]You've seen pictures of this little area next to the patio. I've always loved the cottagy look of the flowers and various pots but I'm starting to feel like it's looking a little messy and haphazard. Beat down. Next year I want to totally clean it up and do something different. It'll be fun to plan it. I still love the cottage look, just a bit more civilized.
[Image]I think lobelia is my favorite flower. They are annuals in our area. And this planter is my hands down favorite. The "GROW" part is actually cut out so it's the inside you are seeing.
[Image]My big veggie plot is not going to happen this year. It's tucked away on the other side of the house. That area has been ignored since I stopped growing vegetables about 8 years ago. I just couldn't keep up with it and the work at the lake as well. And yes, the lake requires a lot of work and not just yard work. So, I have to start early in April next year, maybe even work on it a bit this summer and fall. Instead I hauled out some big pots and here I have four different tomato plants. Marigolds help keep certain pests away and they look pretty. In a few other pots here and there I have bush beans, lettuce and spinach. It has been pouring out all day and I took these pictures out in the rain so I'll have to show you my other attempts at container gardening another time.
[Image]Remember my junk shop find a few months ago? I planted her up and made another hole in the brick (egad!). I don't know if it distracts from or emphasizes the cables along the wall but it is what it is. I'd like to hang something in the middle. Any suggestions?
[Image]One last pic and I'm done boring you with this stuff. But seriously, this is all I've been doing! I'm pretty sure I'm going to pare back on the flowers at the lake this summer. I truly love puttering around there with my plants and pots, but the first bit of work in the spring is just too much. I'm just going to try to get more perennials in the ground when they go on sale. And we're off to the lake Friday! Father's Day is Sunday and Emily's birthday is Monday so it should be a great time. There's so much to do but it's a change of scenery. I'd rather clean out a boat rather than a refrigerator! You can always jump in the lake to cool off, too!
Well, I'm off to get some reading in before bed. Now remember, if you read my blog and were never able to comment, now you can. And you can leave your email address if you want.
Have a great week all! :)
XO,
Jane
