Jane what an awesome lake home you have every time you show pics of it...its huge girl...sorry to hear about your contractor but girl I could write a book about them...while we were remodeling it seems the only thing that fit right was my check in their pocket I can't tell you how many we had over 20 years here that didn't show up...I had a sheet rock guy tell me he would be here on Tuesday and didn't show up for another year and Yes it was a Tuesday...so I learned real quick that when they tell me a day I have to ask which month of what year...I kid you not Jane this guy showed up a year late and was upset that I had all the sheet rock done by someone else...Live and learn..ha ha!! May you have a great day my friend...am I'm not good at decorating ha ha!! Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria

Janie, I love everything you've done to the master BR, and why on earth do you think that the comforter doesn't work with beachy? It's perfection. The color and everything. Love it. That's funny about Macy's, but I love the bed and the other things you got from there.

The girls' room would look pretty in a yellow with white furniture. Very fresh. I like that idea. And the boys room could stand to go either lighter or darker. Dark makes corners recede. What if you got picket fences for the headboards in there and painted them white? I don't think a section of fencing would cost very much, and it would be a cute, cottagey look. Of course I'm thinking outside the box (which is where I live, LOL!) ;-)

Loved seeing your neat place, and Janie, it looks very clean to me. I think you did a super job with the shoot.

XO,

Sheila :-)

Hi Jane,

I just adore you and I did not spy any undies lying around! "The Italian" and I have spent much of the last 2 years remodeling and we have yet to do our master bedroom. It is last on the list! I agree with Magpie...she offers you some great advice! Your lake house is stunning and what a joy to have a home away from home. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Love and hugs to you!

Jane, your lake home is really just gorgeous. I love the master bedroom. I think the bedding works "beachy" just fine. And that chair - I'm going to short out my laptop drooling. It's funny, Sheila had the same thought as I about headboards. I've seen the picket fence idea done and it's really nice and fresh. Plus, the openness would work for a smaller space. And by the way, I've always loved attic eave rooms, they just remind me of a secret hideaway. I'd be thrilled to stay there lol. Kathy

Good Morning Jane,
OOOH, I love it! It looks homey and pretty and it's by my favorite big Lake! I love what you have done in the Master, it's artsy and so very homey as well! I love the soft blues, they are perfect and I think the yellow will look good as well. I'm still mad about Marshall Fields too! I have a pic of my brother and I sitting on Santa's lap, downtown Chicago. My mom got her high heel stuck in an escalator there and fouled up the whole system! I was only 5 but remember it like yesterday! Ahhh, you brought back memories! Hugs, Cindy

Oh Jane!
What a beautiful home. It is so warm and cozy looking. I love it.

I think if that little chair has some lime green in it, I would find a little throw to put over the chair to bring in that third color. Maybe you could make some little tassels to hang from your lamps to move that third color around the room. Just the little touches.

Thanks for sharing, and for taking me to the lake house. I had such a fabulous time. Country hugs sweetie, Sherry

Thank you for the tour, Hon. But I'd never try to tell anyone what to do with bedrooms. I don't know what to do with the bedrooms, in our own home! >,-)

Thank you for giving me links to some mini-calendar sites. I knew of Susan Branch but never of the other sweet site.

And also, thank you for the suggestion, a while back, to freeze my nearly-over-the-edge bananas for when I really want to use them.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd, another BIG Thank you! For being one of the gals who does not force her readers to do that ^&^%$#@ Word Verification thing!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I read and try to Comment in, a lot of blogs. And that ^&^%$#@ Word Verification thing is getting to be very, very much of a "PITA."<-[very un-lady-like, I know]

I do Comment Verification so I don't have any reason to use Word Verification. I pre-read my Comments so I'd find one, if a bot was trying to slip some 'horror' into my Comments, anyway.

I'm compiling a list of sweet gals who don't use the Word Ver. thing. If they don't, and haven't had any problems, then why do so many others, still use it, I'm wondering?

Oh Jane, what a lucky girl you are. You have this wonderful lake house and its a blank slate. You can do anything you want! Think of the possibilities! I cut out all the photos from magazines that inspire me. I put them in a folder for future decorating inspiration. You are going to have so much fun! Just take your time. You don't have to finish anything right away because it already looks pretty cute!

What a wonderful getaway house -- isn't it marvelous to have a "second home" -- you can be so much more relaxed with the decor and not sweat the small stuff. and anyone with a second home knows that things like that duffel bag are just part of the scenery!

LOVE the little behind showing under the bed ... not a camera-hogging diva, eh? so cute.

As for what to do about the boys' former room .. I think with a change of wall decor, it is good to go! White quilts, old headboards -- looks good to me!

What fun to see inside your lakehouse. I am definitely a blue fan... so thoroughly enjoyed your tour...

I think the undies and hind end are great additions!! what other accessories could you need? hehe

Now about the chair... because you asked.. I think something in browns [the right browns] would nicely balance the blues... Slip covers would be good.. you have warmer colours for winter and cooler for summer.. of course I could be wrong!! haha

Have a great week xx Julie

I smiled at your Macy's comment regarding missing Marshall Fields. In the Detroit area, our beloved J.L. Hudson stores became Dayton-Hudson, and then Marshall Fields before becoming Macy stores. Dayton's, Marshall Fields and Macy's may all have their strong points, but there was something so Detroit about Hudson's that is gone forever. I bet MF was Chicago for you.

Don't worry about a little clutter. Unless you are staging a home to sell, normal clutter shows me people are actually living in their homes and enjoying it.

You're doing a great job. Trust your instincts on the guest rooms and then post your address so we can all come visit. :-D

You are so sweet Jane and what a wonderful lake house! Love the bed and comfy chair in your master. As for the twin bedroom w/ the carpet that has to go...how about painting those floors!? Even if it's plywood, that's an inexpensive & quick fix that will brighen up the room! Ikea has the best white netted curtains for 5 bucks! I used those when redoing a beach house and they looked great. Oh, and I would paint the wooden bed white and leave the beautiful wicker as is. You have a super awesome place. Perhaps some tattered quilts for color and you have a great room for the kiddos. Congrats! xo Roberta

Well, I'd be more inclined to make suggestions if I knew what colors you favor and what kind of ambiance you want the rooms to have. First I look at a room and ask myself: What do I want this room to achieve? What do I need this room to do? And then go from there. Too hard for me making every decision at once. Have to go with building blocks!

girl...if I knew what I did that was right on that Jade...I would have done it years ago! I know mine is in a south facing window when it lives in the house. I also use the fertilizer on it once a week when it is summer here...
hope that helps!

Looks like there's a lot of potential in these rooms, Jane. I think you shouldn't stress over it because, absolutely, the lake house is for relaxing! I know my girlfriend found all her beach themed decor at Home Goods, maybe a different time of year, though. I should show you pictures.

Hi Jane...

Girl, I love, love, LOVE your lakehouse!!! Ohhh...and how much fun to decorate a home like this!!! I love what you're doing in your master bedroom...it really does have that serene coastal ambiance!!! Love that beautiful soft shade of blue and the creamy white...gorgeous! Your bedding is fabulous...I love it and I think it has a "beachy" feel to it...especially because of the colors! Love your furniture...and that sweet rocking chair! What a pretty pillow...love the embroidery! Ohhh...and I just have to say something about the beautiful vignette on your bed table...love it!!!

Hmmm...you talked about adding in accent color...I think green would be really pretty! I love blue and green together! Ohhh Girl, you're having too much fun! Hehe!

I just love all of the room you have in this pretty lake house! I think that painting the walls in your daughter's room a soft buttery yellow sounds yummy...would be so pretty with that blue and white! And...I love the string of starfish on the wall...cute idea!!!

Now...for the 3rd guest room...oh, I would have so much fun with that room! A while back I seen a red & white checked quilt from JC Penneys...I fell in love with it the moment I saw it! I planned an entire room around it...of course, I don't have an extra room to decorate! Hehe! I certainly could envision a seaside bedroom in red and blues...with that pretty red and white quilt! Sheeshh...I'm rambling and will stop...hehe! I sure wish you the best in all of your decorating endeavours...have lots of fun, my friend!!!

Warmest wishes,

"....before it so rudely turned in to Macy's." HA!! SO true.

I love your bedroom...it totally looks like a comfy lakehouse room to me! And that swan pillow is so sweet...is it made from an old embroidered pillow cover? If so, what a great idea! (And if not, still a great idea if I say so myself, lol!).

Check out Benjamin Moore's Castleton Mist for one of the bedrooms...it's a greeny-yellow (yellowy-green?) that I love (and used) and I think it would look great at the lake! Especially with white furniture.
