Yes, Ashville has many lovely restaurants & shops to visit. Spring is always such a pretty time to visit ... blooms everywhere. Can see you are having a grand time. We enjoy every visit we make, down there.
Jane, your Asheville trip sounds like a fun get away. Makes me want to plan a trip of my own. ;-) It's been many years since I was in Asheville. So pretty! Enjoy your time with Penny, Mary, and the others. Envious of your time together. Lucky you! ~ Sarah
So glad ya'll had a great time. That food looks delish:)
we're headed up that way Tuesday for a day trip and then over to silva to spend the night with my aunt.. back home on thursday. It's less than 2 hours for us , so an easy trip.
Looks like a fun getaway. I had to surrender a souvenir because it was sharp when I was coming home from Arizona in 2003. I received it from airline personnel when I landed. I enjoy Southern food too, which I get to eat rarely :( xo

What a great get-a-way! I love Asheville....thanks for the lovely tour. There's nothing better than North Carolina bar-b-que! Have a wonderful week, Susie
I am SO envious of you! Your photos say it all ~ fabulous. My son is in Wilmington,NC and loves it! If I didn't have to be in my classroom tomorrow morning, I'd jump on a plane and join you all :)
Sounds like my kinds of trip, Jane. My cousin Steve, is Chief Operating Officer at Kilwin's. Have you tried their salted caramels! I am hooked on them!!! xoxo
Hi Jane, I am so enjoying your vacation pictures. It is so much fun to see knowing that we will never be allowed to travel that far. Southern food from what I have had before hubby got sick was so yummy. I will be waiting to see more. Hugs from Your Missouri Friend.
WOW, I am hungry after hearing about ALL of these wonderful restaurants:) It sure sounds like you are having a wonderful time! I have yet to visit Ashville but it is on my "to visit" list!
Looks like you are having a great time in a great city! I have never been to Asheville, but I will keep this post in my mind for when I do. Love the pillows in the old lawn chair!
Jane, I'm so happy y'all are having such a nice time in Asheville! We need to go back sometime, it's been a few years since we visited. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Love Asheville. You're in my neck of the woods--Asheville is only about an hour away. Although I go regularly, you've given me some new places I didn't know about to visit! Best, Susan
Sounds just wonderful Jane! Dan and I loved Asheville when we were there, so much charm! I am glad to hear your having a great time too! Hi to Al for me . Hugs to you, Cindy
Oh, this brought back memories. Unfortunately it was raining when we were there...hard. Looks wonderful in bright sunshine, and don't worry...you walked enough to try more restaurants. Can't wait to see more pictures. Have fun, Evi
Glad you are having a great time Jane. Looks like you need to get crafty when you return to make your husband a terrarium. I'll check back later to see more pictures of your trip!
It really is like the 70's isn't it? The incense smells and the clothes in some of the shops took me way back! I'm so glad that you had as much fun this year as last...sometimes it doesn't work out that way, but Asheville has so much to see. So glad you tried the chips and liked them. I am also glad I can't get them here (although they do ship) because you and I both know that those babies had fat and calories galore, but worth it!!

[Image]We are on our 2nd day in Asheville, North Carolina...well, ending it anyway by going out to dinner. It has been a whirlwind of activity since the plane touched down Saturday afternoon. We dropped our bags off at the hotel and went and had dinner at Luella's.
[Image]It's this sort of place. The Husband LOVES barbecue and he had an assortment of chicken, turkey and pork. I had the andoullie sausage with fried okra. I love Southern cooking! Rumor has it that President Obama ate here everyday when he was in town but according to the waitress, it was his secret service people. Very popular place!
[Image]The greenery around our hotel is just beautiful, especially since there is so little blooming in Chicago right now. I snatched a bloom off this hydrangea and have it in a glass on my night stand!
[Image]Off we went to downtown Asheville on Sunday morning. There were a lot of local artisans selling their art all along the streets and sidewalks. The husband was really interested in these terrariums but they were close to impossible to ship home.
[Image]Aren't they awesome?!
[Image]Remember the 70's?
[Image]We ate outdoors at this restaurant. The food was outstanding.
[Image]We had Italian meats on flatbread and...
[Image]and we shared a salad. It was all so good and everything tastes fresher when you are outdoors, don't you think?
[Image]It's so lively downtown, lots of street musicians...
[Image]and stores with their wares spilling out into the street to entice you to come inside.
[Image]I thought these would look good in my garden, but I learned last year that you can't bring anything sharp on the plane.
[Image]Pretty flowers everywhere!
[Image]Another blogger that recently visited Asheville, Sue, from I Need Mom told me about this place, so of course we checked it out.
[Image]Two chalkboards filled with so many combinations, it was hard to choose, but I settled on a paper cone filled with the best chips you have ever had with herbs and spices and little chunks of goat cheese. It was called the Parisian. Oh! They were SO good!
[Image]The we stopped at Kilwin's for fudge...
[Image]...which we had with coffee!
[Image]Oh, heaven!
[Image]It seems all we did was walk and eat! Soon it was dinner time and after a short stop at the hotel, we ate at this Mediterranean restaurant nearby. Along with an onion and leek bisque...
[Image]I had seared scallops and dolmas, rice rolled up in grape leaves.
So that ended our first full day. I probably gained about 10 pounds but we did do a lot of walking and my calf muscles hurt! The Husband was sweet enough to give me a foot massage last night...with lotion! He's definitely a keeper. Today was another full day but it would be picture overload so I will post again soon. I just wanted to touch base and I will be back in a few days. :-)
