Your weekend sounds glorious! I can only imagine how much fun you all had as well as the memories you made with Emily. You're all going to look so pretty when her wedding day gets here. Glad you're having fun!
What a fun but tiring day that must have been - I know you had a great time.
Emily will be a beautiful bride..........and you will look stunning in plum satin, if you choose that one!
Jane - I think you mean a 'shandy' which is a very old-fashiond and popular pub drink in the Summertime in England, mostly for ladies! At a pub they just add lemonade to beer on tap but if yours actually had a brand name and came pre-mixed maybe they did change it to shanty!
Here's raising my glass to you dear will look forward to more wedding prep stories.
This is all soooo.. much fun I remember being with my daughter when she tried on her dress...you all had a good time too, can't get any better then that! ox, Diane
Keep us updated as she makes choices. I wanna see the Cake she chooses. so much fun.

Golly Jane, it seems like forever since I have been here. That can't be....can it? Another wedding on the horizon...what fun! With a son living in the Chicago area, I know you guys have had some awful hot no rain weather. He said his yard is a mess. I am sorry your marigolds didn't make it. I can send more seeds for next year if you like as my did quite well. You see I have this one spot that no matter what I plant there, it grows like wildfire. I think I could plant cereal boxes and cereal would grow. Hmmmm...maybe I should plant a few coins. But the rest of my yard was not as lucky. Lots of my summer plantings did weird. Anyway.....I look forward to seeing more on the wedding and the dress you pick out. xoxo Here's a blog link where I posted about the marigolds. http://www.thevintagenestblog.com/2012/07/picasso-tulip-vase.html
What a wonderful day Jane. I am sure Emily will be a beautiful bride and you will be a vision in the plum satin (I just feel that you will go back and get that dress.)
Sounds like you all had a wonderful time Jane... and I don't blame Emily for not wanting anyone to see her wedding gown yet, but I am sure it is stunning!... you always have so much fun, I want to be part of your family too!... that drink sounds delish!... xoxo Julie Marie
It's such a special day, isn't it? That moment, when she looks at you and says 'this is it' is precious. It sounds like you had a lot of fun before, during and after!
Oh my, we are both riding the same train aren't we? We found Lauren's dress the first day too. I thought it would be so much harder! I can't wait to see more of Emily's wedding:>)
Hi Jane ~ how much fun to go bridal dress shopping with your daughter! Just a suggestion for a formal dress for yourself: don't limit yourself to looking at bridal stores. Those places are way over-priced. Check out the nicer department stores or even, believe it or not, Dress Barn! My aunt found the most beautiful, formal mother-of-the-groom dress there last year.
I cannot wait to see the dress Emily picks. She is going to be just beautiful. It was so much fun when my daughters went to buy their dresses-what a sweet memory you are creating- xo Diana
Hi Jane, The fun has started. Reading your blog brought back memories of when our daughter got married. The shopping for gowns was fun and you got so you could tell which one had a chance and which one didn't. Is she going with you to help you pick your dress? That can be fun to. We have had some enjoyable weather for a few days. Just wish I felt better. Have a great day. Hugs Your Missouri Friend.
HI BLONDIE!!!! BEING the Mother of the bride is such a special time for a Mom and Daughter.....my daughter tried on about 5 at shop #1...fell in LOVE with dress #1...we had another appt and she tried on several more but went back for dress #1!!!! HOW fun...I loved that day!!!I cried!!! I was introduced to RATLER BEER in germany....it is Beer with Sprite over there...I LOVED IT!!!!! I will have to look for beer and Lemonade...sounds even better!!!! I am not a beer drinker but loved that!!! hugs, jamie
Thanks for sharing these special times with us. I can't believe I've had a daughter-in-law for almost two years now, and yet my own wedding doesn't seem like it was decades ago. All are happy memories that are dancing in the background as I read your blog.
Jane, I read your post on my ipad a couple of days ago but for some reason I can't leave comments when I do that. So, I've just popped back for another visit this time using my laptop so that I can comment! Sounds like a fun day out for the bride & her group, looking forward to seeing your dress, too.
How exciting! She is brave taking so many with her to try on gowns. I wouldn't have wanted that many opinions...I went with just my mom and my sister (who was 13 at the time)!
I'm trying to catch up after what turned into a blogging break that I didn't mean to take. House stuff, vacation and some family stuff sort of got me away from blogging for a while. Isn't it nice having it cool enough to actually step outside? We went to a place on vacation that I haven't written about yet, but I think you'd love it. The Vero Beach Hotel and Spa...can't wait to go back!
Hi Jane! Oh, what a wonderful shopping trip! I remember shopping with my daughter for her wedding dress. I still get tears in my eyes thinking about it! :) I'm thrilled for your daughter! Be a sweetie, shelia;)
Blondie, how wonderful for you! We had a wonderful day too when our daughter tried on dresses. It was nothing like the tv shows! We laughed, cried, had a great time and then ate...to let all the stress go! I'm so happy for you. Yay! It is a wonderful time to enjoy all the good things in store for both of you. Blessings, Debbie
Wedding dress shopping-how fun! Glad your daughter found the perfect dress on her first day out, and that she invited her mil-to-be. That speaks volumes to me!
How exciting Jane! It is such fun to gather special ladies and surround the bride with 'oohs and aahs' as she tries on dresses. Enjoy this time and keep the shandy's coming!
I've had the honor of wedding gown shopping twice with daughters and both times were tear fests. There's just something special about finding the right dress, although sometimes it takes trying on a lot of dresses.
Oh Jane.....I have not been by here in forever....I apologize....looks like you are having another wedding.....I'm sure this wedding will be as lovely as the last one you posted about!! (O:
Awww, this is exciting time, Janie. How lucky that Emily found a gown on the first day of looking. With my daughter Tina, we had to go to different places on different days. She was so picky but I really enjoyed all the planning. I am sure you do too I can't wait to see Emily in a wedding gown. Be sure you take lots of pictures when the time comes. And good luck finding a gown for you too...Christine

[Image]Saturday we were on a mission to look at bridal gowns for Emily's upcoming wedding. The morning started here with fresh coffee and bagels from Dunkin Donuts. Then we were off to the suburbs to a shop in Oak Lawn (I forget the name!). This is our little posse pictured above: Maureen, Mother of the Groom; Megan, Matron of Honor; Emily, Bride; Me, Mother of the Bride and Mary Clare, Bridesmaid. Abby couldn't come as she was at a wedding up in Lake Geneva, she is the Maid of Honor. Emily has 16 in her wedding party, what a procession this is going to be!
At the first shop she tried on about 8 dresses and fell in love with one particularly. But we had another appointment in Lemont so off we went. This is the shop pictured above. It was well worth the trip because after trying on another 8 or so dresses, she fell in love with the last one. She is being very secretive about it so I can't share a picture, not that I blame her. After we picked out the veil and headpiece, we ran across the street to Nick's Tavern for a Nickburger. Wow...delicious!
[Image]After a whole day of shopping we decided to end the day at Durbin's, which is a few blocks from our house. We sat outside and talked over the traffic whizzing by.
[Image]Have you ever had a Summer Shandy? It's made by Leinenkugel's and it is a delicious beer with lemonade in it. I wish I had discovered this earlier in the summer! It's only made seasonally. We had a nice time talking and recounting the events of the day.
Emily is going to make such a beautiful bride. She was so worried she couldn't pull off a wedding dress because she is so short, we were so happy to see that everyone can be a vision in white! While at the bridal shop I perused the formal gowns, looking for something for myself and I saw a lot that I liked. So as not to infringe on Emily's day, I am going back to try some dresses on in a few weeks. I saw a beautiful one made of satin in a deep jewel tone plum and I really have it on my mind.
So that's it for my weekend for the most part. Sunday was a lazy day just finishing up my book, watching a movie with The Husband and ordering Chinese food. I hope you had a good one, too. See you soon! :)
