I had to go back and read part one first...so many wonderful ideas, Jane! I never thought of spray painting branches white (and they can be used more than one year)! This was a great article, and I got lots of inspiration from it! xo

I like your ideas: not everything has to be home, keep inexpensive, and relax. Perfect words of wisdom.

What a great informative holiday post. You can incorporate your hints for everyday events and other holdays too. For at the end, it's all about family and friends and most of all, giving to any charity that speaks to you.

This was just great!! I had a friend once who baked cookies and then carried them out to the car. But in her case it was because there was no place to put them - her kitchen was a mess!!
Enjoy your decorating, Jane! I am just now winding up mine - but it took me a solid 8 days!

These tips are so wonderful and useful, not just for large gatherings but even small ones. I always try to cook everything ahead. In fact, sometimes when people come over they wonder if in fact dinner will be served because the kitchen is so clean lol.

Enjoy your weekend decorating Jane! Tis the season :)

The second half did not disappoint! I am decorating, too, keeping it simpler this year. You give great common sense yet creative ways to enjoy the holidays.

Jane I think your tips are helpful and written from your heart. Happy for you your column is bringing you enjoyment, believe me I know how time consuming writing is. I put up a small post last night and in it I showed some holiday decorations which are more winter themed than Christmas. Today when I read your IG post I thought about how easy it is to get caught up in perfection and crazy notions that every inch of our home must reflect Christmas. This year it's not about Christmas but more reflecting the winter and knowing except for a small table top tree with only lights everything else can stay for awhile longer and be enjoyed. I still can not bring myself to decorating a tree since my son passed but I am at least bringing out some Christmas for 2016.
Sending love,
Vera

What great tips Jane. This year I am going up to my son's for Christmas. Will go up on Thursday and come back on the 26th.

Thanks for the great ideas on gifts - you should write a book on these tips....

We decided not to do a lot of giving this year. I also make a lot of home made food gifts. In fact I am making a couple of wreaths for my Doctors and some goodies for the office, which I will take on Tuesday.

You sound like your ahead of the game and that is wonderful.

Have a wonderful week. Just heard on World News that you got a lot of snow in Chicago land.
Stay warm - I am freezing at 49 degrees, LOL what a sissy I have become.

Hugs,
Mary

PS. When I begin making a garland I make sure that the string is not twisted in any way as this will result in flipping. Then I place a heavy book on either end so it will stay in place while I decorate.

Lots of good ideas and inspiration. We don't do the big holiday gatherings like we did when the kids were little. Everyone has grown up and moved away. Even my boys. But I'm happy to say they will both be home in 2 weeks time so I am cleaning and organizing (slowly) and want to do some baking, and of course, have things on hand that I know they like. Wishing you and yours a lovely holiday season. Tammy

P.S. As far as I'm concerned, any time is wine time. :)

PPS, proofreading is one of my favorite things to do. Someone handed me an invitation the other day, a very short one I must add, and immediately I found a mistake and pointed it out to them. I mentioned how in this day and age of technology, I find that every magazine and book and magazine I read has at least one mistake, if not more. Not sure what the excuse is. Is everyone in too much of a hurry? Always helps to have fresh eyes look something over.

I enjoyed both articles, Jane. You have so many great ideas. Our holiday season has become quite simple, relaxed and quiet. Just the two of us now -- all the kids are scattered around the country and they all stay home for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We're not much for travel over the holidays, and that's fine. We like to cozy up in our little cottage and watch the snow fall (which it is doing today!). Have a beautiful Christmas with your dear family. Hugs, Nancy

Another great article, Jane. I needed an idea for my "retired girls" Christmas luncheon and I might have just found one. I always use my everyday white china and a trip to Home Goods puts a pretty salad or dessert plate on top for a cheap price.. Happy Holidays to you and your family..Judy

This is wonderful, Jane! Love all the great tips, especially the gift-giving ideas! I am always wondering what to give people you don't know very well, but want something they will appreciate. I also love the idea of not making everything from 'scratch' and using a mix or other convenience. This time of year is so busy and sometimes we need a quick and easy way to put together a gift or a meal. Love your writing - it is so friendly and comforting somehow. Like you understand how crazy life can be and just want to help us all get through it with grace and style. xo Karen
