Happy Valentine's Day, Jane, to you and your hubby. Those cookies look real good and the roses look beautiful on the chair. Enjoy your dinner, sounds delicious. xo
Happy Valentines Day Jane! For the first time in years we are venturing out for dinner, lol, I suspect it will make us want to be home next year, we will see. I totally understand your decorating conundrum. I do the same thing, make choices based on what I have feeling that I can't get rid of a perfectly good piece of furniture just becasue I am sick of it or it doesn't fit my style any more. Problem is, you then spend money on something you don't like and it is self perpetuating! I'm having the same issues right now and trying to figure out what on earth to do about it. I really think, in the long run it is more of a waste of money to buy things that don't fit what you want.
Happy Valetine's Day Blondie. Many years ago, I had a chair and ottoman covered in a fabric, I thought was wonderful...didn't like it so much after it was done. Although I still have it,in a bedroom. I like plains, checks and stripes for the main rooms. I do plains and add pillows and throws. Your red velvet cookies look yummy. Hope your husband is all healthy. xoxo,Susie
Have a wonderful Valentine's Day with The Husband. Love your cookies!!! It is a struggle to figure out what to do when totally redecorating, isn't it? xo Diana
Happy Valentine's Day to you too Jane! I'm sure you will find the right furniture for you since you realized what you now want! The cookies look so good too!
I just had two chairs recovered, and for the price of the fabric (on sale at Hancock) and labor, I could have bought new. These were old family chairs though, so we wanted to keep them. Can't wait to see what you finally decide!
Happy Love Day Jane, pretty flowers....all will work out in the decorating department, give it time......Ooohhhhh those cookies look so yummy......Enjoy your evening, Hugs Francine.
Have a wonderful night. I am also cooking dinner..Pork Chops with wine and garlic (pioneer woman recipe). I have the table all set nice and romantic for 3. We still have baby girl (12). I'm with you on the too much flower feminine decorating. Sometimes I look at some blogs and wonder how in the world does their husbands live in all that? lol
Good idea Jane. If it really isn't what you have envisioned then I say look until something hits you smack in the face that you know you can resist! I had two wingback chairs covered in a white fabric and it cost about $800 each to get them reupholstered. The problem is that I am now tired of the style and want something new, so reupholstering isn't always the best answer unless you plan to live with the style forever!
Enjoy your romantic Valentine dinner with the husband.
My hubby would love those cookies. The flowers are pretty. I would mix it up in your living room and not make it all matchy. I don't know for sure what your style is for sure but go with what you like. Maybe take some pictures of the style you want. Get what you want now while you can. Happy Valentines Day.
Happy Valentine's Day! We are having pork loin as well. My hubbie's favorite. I broke my wrist, so he is helping! I am sharing vintage Valentine's Day cards at Still woods Farmhouse. Hope you can stop by for a visit! Blessings from Still Woods
Hi Jane, Your cookies look good and your special meal sounds good. We always do our Valentine's meal out on a day other than the 14th to beat the crowds. Enjoy your day, and good luck with the decorating choices!
We stayed in as well and are now snuggled in on the couch together watching tv ~ isn't it romantic! Can't wait to see what your vision is for you couch and chairs ~ I so want to do something with ours starting with new furniture. It is something that I need help with ~ I may take some shots and post it up for ideas. Happy Valentines Day Jane! xo
Yay! I'm glad you are going to follow your heart with decorating your room. If you don't you won't be happy with it. I hope you and your hubby have a very happy valentine's day!
Your flowers are so pretty and those strawberries look yummy!... so do your cookies... I made homemade red velvet cupcakes today... Happy Valentines Day to you!... xoxo Julie Marie
Happy Valentines Day, to you and The Husband, Jane!
We love to eat "in" on this day as well! Mr D came down with that terrible virus overnight so we are going to dine in our jammies and hunker down with a fire.
Those cookies look yummy! I would love the recipe!
Decorating decisions can be tough. We have been deliberating about sofa's for almost a year! Like you, our furniture also needs to be pet friendly.
Your Valentine's Day dinner sounds so good. And romantic. :-) Yes, please do share that cookie recipe with me. I'd love to make these cookies; they look so good!
Hi Jane, The flowers are so pretty! And now I am curious to what route your going to take with the room decorating. I know it will be good! I made a romantic dinner for 3! hehe. Dan, Addison and I. But it was all good and Addison actually likes steak with saute mushrooms and onions. Go figure, she is only 2. Hugs friend, Cindy
Working with existing pieces is always the hardest. Glad you recognized that you weren't happy with the direction. Now, I can't wait to see where you take it! Thanks for sharing, liz
Jane, I know you would share those delicious red velvet butter cookies with me if we lived close to each other....they look scrumptious!
Pretty flowers, too....I have been seeing some lovely arrangements with different colored roses on Pinterest lately, and I love the look. I might start a new board with all my free time today! :/
Oh, and I do like your choice for your chairs. It was not my first pick, *but* you truly couldn't go wrong with any of the choices in my opinion.
Have a great day! I might send you another SOS email later....
Leave it to me to be in the minority with the striped fabric! I think it is interesting how our furniture can affect us. When we moved into this house, we had so much going on. My husband had just had cancer surgery, my daughter was graduating from high school and I was leaving a town and people I loved as well as giving up my dream job. Needless to say, I was a mess. We opted to buy all new living room furniture and I wanted something "different" than I'd had. I also wasn't really focused at the time. Long story short...I bought the complete window display at a very nice furniture store near here. I bought a floral print sofa and loveseat and beachy looking side tables with a matching trunk thingy coffee table. I loved it for about 6 months. I can't exactly explain it, but the busy pattern made me nervous or unsettled. I felt limited to color choices, Christmas was a nightmare as my floral had dark red in it and so Christmas red and green was impossible to use. After about 3 years, we bit the bullet and moved it all to the basement and I bought espresso leather sofa and loveseat and dark tables. I was immediatly calmer in my home. I can change the look with pillows and throws. I'm so glad that I made the change. It is worth exploring all your options-I made an expensive mistake!
Redecorating seems like it would be totally fun, but it is HARD making up your mind, isn't it? When you know how long you will be living with your decision, you want to get the right thing! I am going as neutral as I can with my new stuff so that I can change up the color schemes with pillows and other accessories. I am sure your room will be lovely!
Hope you had A WONDERFUL Valentine's Day. We did too and it is nice to be spoiled on Valentines! Your cookies look fabulous. They are such a pretty color and we adore red velvet.
Sounds like you had a lovely Valentines Day! We eat pork loin a good bit. It is so tender and delicious. Glad you found the direction you want to go in for your family room. Better to do it right the first time, right? I know you are excited about the change.

[Image]Happy Valentine's Day! You have to love a day that celebrates love! I am a total romantic, so it's one of my favorite days. And for once you don't have to buy your own flowers and chocolates! So, since you deserve the same, I have taken some pretty pictures of flowers and what were to be chocolate covered strawberries until I found I forgot to buy chocolate. Well, these are sweet and healthier.
[Image]Are you celebrating with the love(s) of your life today? Like most of you, I don't want to have dinner in a restaurant so I'm making The Husband a nice dinner, Tuscan Porchetta. It's basically a pork loin cooked with fennel and wine. And what's nice is we can share the rest of the bottle of wine with dinner. I think I will make a pretty table, too, and I'll share pictures.
[Image]In my last post I showed you some fabric samples for the two living room chairs that are going to be reupholstered. Thanks so much for your input on the two fabrics I had narrowed it down to, the majority ruled in favor of the thin ticking stripe, me, too. And then...boom! I woke up yesterday morning and said to myself, "I don't like where this is going." Seriously. I envisioned the entire room with the floral sofa and blue and white striped chairs, froze it in my mind and shuddered. Then I envisioned an entirely empty room and thought about what I would put in it. And it was nothing like I had planned before. My problem was that I was trying to match/coordinate the chairs with the sofa and not taking into consideration how I really wanted the room to look. Right now I do not like how overly feminine and frilly it is. So, why keep playing into that when I have the opportunity to change some major pieces? Long story short, I'm going back to the furniture store tomorrow and I am going to look at more fabric. And with the cost of fabric and having it done professionally, I'm also going to look into getting new chairs in the same price range. I hope I haven't confused you. We all get frustrated looking at paint colors and fabric and I suppose we ask ourselves a lot of questions. I think I just neglected to ask myself what I wanted to do and instead thought about what I should do. Enough said!
[Image]I made these cookies yesterday, Red Velvet Butter Cookies. I am so, so sorry that I didn't keep the blogger's name that posted it. Please tell me if it was you and I will give you proper credit in my next post. The recipe is simple and the cookies are just out of this world. Very soft and cake-like with little bits of white chocolate chips for crunch. They are totally gone now! If you'd like the recipe, let me know and I will email it to you.
Now, I'm off to join a few new to me parties. I'm joining Debra at Common Ground for Be Inspired Friday...and Rooted in Thyme for Simple and Sweet Friday. Please visit these blogs and all the party goers! And a BIG Happy Valentine's Day to all of you!
