I have driven past this old building many times and admired it as it truly represents the past. It is wonderful to see how it is still used and the great condition the building is. Thanks for sharing.

Built in 1872, it is the oldest brick schoolhouse in the county, third oldest in the state. By 1884 the population outgrew the building and it became used primarily by the GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) and now used by veterans’ groups. This school looks similar to others we’ve photographed where the school was 1-room on the first floor with the second floor used for activities. Located on the south side of Correctionville, the lot on the south side of the school is a veterans’ memorial park with two aircraft, a piece of artillery, bronze statues, flags and memorial stones — and a “Freedom Rock.”
