Sometimes I wonder if the transplant was worth it. First of all, there is the very expensive medicine that I have to take twice a day. Second, there are the side effects from being immuno-compromised (Pneumonia, Shingles, the fear of rejection). Third is the hypertension, which is bad this time (177/114 accompanied by Headache and Nausea). I had to call my doctor for more medicine. My nephrologist thinks I'm close to an ER visit, especially if this new medicine doesn't bring my blood pressure down. Finally, there's the depression, which I think is a side effect of the medication, because it's a relatively new side effect. I haven't always felt that way. When I was first transplanted, I had this overwhelming feeling of gratitude for being alive. I had a second chance at life and I relished every minute of it.
