Memory Eternal to her. It inspires me to keep up my habit of writing to my own grandkids-- I hope they will want to keep such letters when they are the age you were when you received this lovely letter from your Grandma.

I always loved getting letters from my grandma. Her letters were not polished - English was very much her second language - but they were pure expressions of love... straight from the heart. Here is my favourite one, presented with her beautiful grammar and spelling intact, written to me on my 25th birthday when I was in Japan.
June 2/94
Dear Ed; Happy birth-day to you, and wishing you many more.
How are you doing? It seem's you come along fine. I'm happy for you too, Wishing you lotsa luck & happyness with your work you are doing. Hope you won't get to lonsome but I think it's nice if you have a room mate.
It sound's pretty good with your doing the Pancakes. Keep it up, and with the Keilki, the more you try, the better it get's. But with the Roll Kuchen I think it is to danger's, you half to have lotsa fat or lard or what you want to call it, and on top of it, you have to have it so hot befor you began to fry, and then if you get some fat beside the Pan, you could get fire, you woundt want to happen, woud ya?
But I can't think of another easy thing, like the Pancakes, I'm sure Mom gave you a receipy of Hamburger or Chilli, things like so, but if everything is so exspencive, you can hardly no what to make. How cheap is Hamburger Meat? Potatoes, and flour, or eggs, sugar, salt is the most thing's you need for your food.
So you'rs will be a big 25 years. How fast time fly's.
To bad you can't be here for the big day, what shall take place in August to my birth-day. But Pete is'nt sure either as he will make it. I wish the girls atleast could, like Heather & Greta. On top of all, I hav'nt been for it at all, to make such a big thing, just about a 80 birth-day, it will hardly be time for it anyway's, but see what we can see.
How is the weather there? We have wonderful weather sunshine, last week's. Calm, not mosquitoes yet, how beautiful it looks, everything green, flowers blooming, garden comes up.
So this must be good-bye for now. God be with you, till we meet again.
