I have a Masters degree from Columbia University. I still have yet to secure a position in the real world despite what Trump and his cronies profess about our supposed unemployment rate. Perhaps I should get past the money and time spent being overeducated, working in several fields, suck it up, and sell donuts. At least its an honest living. I just wish I could pay my rent with minimum wage. I am glad they now have an outpost closer to home!

By the way, isn't that griffin on the wall from that locations days as Weiser Occult Bookshop? Iused to look for it and thought it had been taken down. Long for the days when there were so many interesting and affordable stores in the neighborhood.
No matter how educated you are most people will still start at the bottom of any profession. I think a generation was sold the idea that an advanced degree will secure a great job or career, well at least not for first five years is probably closer to fact.
How come the West Side has most of the good donut places? Dough on West 19th, The Donut Pub on West 14th, and Krispy Kreme in Penn Station are all on the West side. At least the Donut Plant has a location on Grand Street, but their best location is in Chelsea on West 23rd The EV has Dun-Well Donuts on St Marks but that’s about it. I used to try the Polish jelly donuts at Neptune Diner, but they barely had any jelly inside, and were basically just a big ball of fried dough.
I still miss Disco Donut and Coffee House, which was right below Carmelita’s Recetion House, on 14th and 3rd, whose permanent store signage also claimed to be home of the Burger of the Year, but which year that was we never knew. Hopefully the Donut Pub will begin the long awaited Donut Renaissance we have all been waiting for,
I do really like the doughnuts at Dun-Well (102 St. Mark's Place).

I love donuts, but as a middle aged, stocky man, I need to pace myself. My husband says I need to cut down on carbs and sweets, Who can resist this place though, especially with the holidays looming? They have scrumptious donuts. So happy they are now on the east side now.

Anon. 11:23 - Yes, that's the old bronze gryphon that graced the facade of Weiser's, one of the more fascinating bookstores I used to frequent. I share your feelings of loss when I think of the many now-vanished places like that.
