The Prius+ sounds interesting. My current commute is 7 miles stop-and-go, which would be perfect for an PHEV. My previous commute was 35 miles of mixed driving, which would still benefit from a PHEV. A population of PHEVs could make good use of the excess energy that powerplants produce at night.
