Huh, this is a great blog post.

I've never needed it for graphics in games, but the same sort of thing comes up in converting between audio in different PCM formats (these are typically signed integers, but I assume this would just change the details of the math, and nothing conceptual).

... And I'm pretty sure it means I've been doing it wrong this whole time 😫. I definitely thought discarding the bottom bits was okay when downsampling.

Hey Charles, unrelated to the actual blog post, but I didn't find another way to contact you.

I was searching for one of your old rants (pre-2008), but Blogspot deleted all those posts... but then I remembered you backed up your blog to your own website precisely because of that. However, the links to the old rants are broken :(

Hopefully those rants are not lost forever?
