[Image]It's been about three months since I switched to Nextel. I decided to dump my T-Mobile Sidekick in the process. It never lived up to the hype of being a PDA. Sure, it was incredible for mail and web, but calendaring and contacts lacked a bit.
Well, I miss it.
To be totally honest, I don't want to be the guy that sits at the dinner table with his family checking his email, but there are times when I wished I had better email and web functionality while out and about... and especially when traveling alone. There, the i850 Motorola nextel phone just didn't cut it. It was supposed to be able to act like a PIM/PDA. Problem is, they didn't make it clear when I bought it on Amazon that you really needed to be hooked up to an exchange server to make that happen. Anyway, the phone was free and I do like the nextel service complete with nationwide walkie talkie.
So, yesterday I joined the corporate crowd and ordered a Blackberry 7100i. Those of you who have been reading here for a while know I used to have a blackberry and really liked it, except for the fact that I kept getting sent refurb models from the company I signed up with... and they would end up failing. When it worked, it was great. Since that time, Blackberry has made many great strides and the 7100 Series is the latest from them. It's closer to looking like a traditional phone but with all the great Blackberry featurset, including much improved browsing, the nextel Walkie Talkie feature and the turn by turn GPS I have come to love on my i850.
I'll let you know in the coming weeks how I like it.
