Disneyland Line (6/17/1976): One of the few "original" Bear Country people left is CINDY STEVENS, a Culinary Hostess in the Mile Long Bar since its opening in 1972. Cindy comments that many amusing incidents have occurred in her location which involve the counter's mirrored sides, designed to create the illusion of depth. She recalls one episode in which a far-sighted older gentleman kept bumping into his reflection on the wall, and repeatedly apologized to the "other man" for his clumsiness!
I also miss the Mile Long Bar! Why couldn't they have left it alone, darn it! Wasn't it enough to destroy the arcade and fill it with more merchandise? During my last trip to Tokyo Disneyland I was very disappointed to see that they had also taken out their Mile Long Bar. Sigh! Does anyone know if WDW had/has one?
Great stuff. Sambo's, why did they have to call it that?! I used to like going there with my grandparents. My grandpa recommended dipping my french fries into A-1 steak sauce, and I liked it a lot!
Major: the story goes that the name "Sambo" Restaurant was taken from the owner's names SAM Battistone Sr and Newell BOhnett and that only later did they promote the link with an old Victorian children's story about a TAMIL INDIAN's trouble with tigers. The story is not pejorative, and has nothing to do with black people.
Somewhere in the 60s "Sambo" became used as a racial slur, and that was the beginning of the end for the brand.

I miss the Mile Long Bar too! I thought it was very funny, but I recall it was one of the first things they got rid of. Anybody know why?
