13日で1日早いですが、さっそく2月号のテキストを買ってきました。


今回と次回の2回に渡って、Writers' Workshopの11月号の解説を
メルマガに投稿していただいた方の英文と、テキストに沿って行います。

今月は佳作者は「なし」でした。

問題文：
「代表的な「韓流スター」として押しも押されもせぬ地位を確立した
俳優ペヨンジュンさんの実業家としての手腕に、韓国で関心が高まっている。」

以下、メルマガ投稿者の作品です。

Korean actor Bea Yong Joon was well-established as a
leading "Korean Star"since he starred in a TV drama
"winter sonata". Korean people are now more interested
in his management expertise.　（本多）

In Korea people are showing a growing concern about business acumen of
Mr. Bae Yong Joon , who has been in a class of his own as a Korean actor
since his success as the star of the TV drama series "Winter Sonata."（YM）

テキストより。
「代表的な」はrepresentよりは、 a leading star, a superstar,
a top starなどが自然

私、leading "Korean Star"で、正解。
YMさんは省略してます。

「日本での人気と裏腹に、本国では「旬は過ぎた」存在との声もある
「ヨン様」」

以下、メルマガ投稿者の作品です。

Contrary to his popularity in Japan, some people in Korea say
he has already passed his peak.　（本多）

Contrary to his continuing popularity in Japan, some people
consider him a has-been in his home country.　（YM）

テキストより。
「裏腹に」はContrary to で結構。
「旬を過ぎた」はout of seasonでは野菜や果物みたいでだめ。
past his peak, has-beenを使う。

二人とも正解です。

問題文：
「「ヨン様」が新境地を開けるかは、芸能関係者の注目の的だ」

以下、メルマガ投稿者の作品です。

Whether he will break new ground or not is
drawing the attention at people in show business.（本多）

Entertainment industry people, therefore, sit up and
take notice of what the future will hold in store for him.（YM）

テキストより。
「新境地を開く」はbreak new groundで結構です。

YMさんの表現はE-DICにも次の例文がありました。

I wonder what the future holds in store for me.
私の将来には，何が待ち受けているのだろう？

「経営難のエンターテイメント会社を買収し、自ら約40％の株式を
所有する筆頭株主に収まった」

以下、メルマガ投稿者の作品です。

Bea bought an ailing entertainment company this March
and became largest shareholder, who owns about 40% of
the business.（本多）

Mr. Bae bought out a financially shaky entertainment-related
company this March with approximately 40% holdings to his name
as the largest shareholder.　（YM）

テキストより。
「経営難の企業」はan entertainment company in financial trouble
(difficulty)や、an ailing entertainment companyが圧倒的に多かった。

「買収する」はbuy, take over, acquire。

「筆頭株主に収まった」はsettled himself as a top shareholderが
多かったが、became its top shareholderとすれば簡単。

「株式所有」はown x% of (a company's) stockでstockは単数。


私、ほぼ正解。
YMさん、テキストにもない表現ですが、たぶん正解。
