Everything has changed a lot for sixty years after the war. And telephone has changed a lot, too. In the past, telephone was a black object connected with a cord from a corner in a house. But now it is called KEITAI the size has become smaller than a purse. People bring it in their pocket or bag. I don't think no one in the world imagined that telephone would become such a light thing.
When I was a child, in the first place, we didn't have telephone in our home. Only offices or schools had their telephone and only one or two homes in a town had telephone in their house. When urgent business occurred, for example, when our father is in critical condition, we used to let the owner of the telephone handle a call. But businesses were basically not so urgent that we didn't need telephone.
Yes, that reminds me of call system. It was not systematic to be called "system", though. Actually when I came to Tokyo and started to work, I didn't have my own telephone. So on the name card which I made at first time, my landlord's telephone number was written and the sign "call" was added under the number. In fact, nobody would have name card with the sign "call" nowadays. (本多)
