リスニングのL/R問題についてお二人からご意見を頂きました。
どなたか大人になってからL/Rなどの発音をマスターされた方
はいらっしゃいませんか。日本国内でが特に望ましいです。

■意味を考えてみよう。答えは以下で

＜しっくりこないシリーズ＞
Stronger seats stay bolted down, in spite of crash impact.
のin spite ofがしっくりきません。

Practical English Usageには、in spite of + nounは
although + clauseと大体同じ意味とあります。

althoughは現実に起きたことを対象にしていると理解しています。
しかしビニエットではcrash impactは実際には起きていないので、
in spite of crash impactがしっくり来ないのです。

A harrowing experience is extremely upsetting or disturbing.

●skid off the tarmac　「滑って滑走路を外れる」
──────────────────────────────
If a vehicle skids, it slide sideways or forwards while
moving, for example when you are trying to stop it suddenly
on a wet road.

The car skidded on the wet pavement and turned turtle in the ditch.
車は濡れた路面をスリップして，溝にひっくり返った。

tarmac
タールマク；舗装用アスファルト混合物（登録商標）
タールマクで舗装された表面、特に滑走路。

──────────────────────────────
If a vehicle rams something such as another vehicle,
it crashes into it with a lot of force, usually deliberately.

And it was my bad luck that I just happened to ram into

「スリップ事故を起こしたんだって？」
「ついてないよ。よりによってパトカーに追突するなんて」
