高橋茅香子(著)　を読みました。



この本は読む力を重視した本です。
そのためには洋書を読みましょうということで、あらゆる
種類の英語の本の紹介が書かれてあります。

自分の興味のある分野の英語の本から読むことを
進めており、色々な種類の本が紹介されています。
旅、料理、小説、コミック、音楽、スポーツ。。。

私が挫折したHigh School Subject Self Taughtも紹介
されており感動でした。

■意味を考えてみよう。答えは以下で

●inconsiderate　「思慮分別を欠いた、軽率な」
●outburst　「（感情の）爆発」
●What's the world coming to?　「いったい世の中はどうなって
いるのだろう。」
●age-old　「昔からある、古い」
●offhand　「思いつきで、即座に」

「思慮分別を欠いた」とは、
they do not take enough care over how their words or actions
will affect other people ということ

E-DICより。
One after another, inconsiderate hikers throw litter in their path.
心ないハイカーたちが次から次へとごみを捨てていく。

●outburst　「（感情の）爆発」

コウビルド。
An outburst of an emotion, especially anger, is a sudden
strong expression of that emotion.

E-DIC。
Our boss is a holy terror. Everyone dreads his outbursts of temper.
社長はとても怖い。みんな，社長のかんしゃくにびくびくしている。

●What's the world coming to?　「いったい世の中はどうなって
いるのだろう。」

E-DIC。
What's the world coming to (when...)?　とwhenが続くことがあります。

What's the world coming to when someone with a college education
can't get a job?
大学出でも就職できない人がいるなんて，世の中いったいどうなってるんだ？

●age-old　「昔からある、古い」

コウビルド。
= ancient
An age-old story, tradition, or problem has existed for many
generations or centuries.

E-DIC。
The relationship between a wife and her mother-in-law is an
age-old problem.
嫁と姑の関係は古くて新しい問題だ。

唯一のE-DICの例文がこんな例文でした。

コウビルド。
If you say something off-hand, you say it without checking
the details or facts of it.

実はこれはコウビルドの二番目の意味です。
一番目の意味は「ぶっきらぼうに、ぞんざいに」

E-DIC。
He spoke in an offhand manner.
彼はぞんざいな話し方をした。

松下さんは　off the top of my head と言い換えられると言っていました。
E-DIC。
My proposal isn't just something off the top of my head.
私はただの思いつきで提案しているのではありません。
