ここで注目したいのは、 care　です。

ここでcareはchooseと言う意味で、本来はもっと積極的に
またはもっと頻繁に行うべきところだが、まあやっている、
というニュアンスのようです。

to do it, you mean that they do it, although they should
do it more willingly or more often.

普通 "as as" の間に入るのは　原形ではないでしょうか？　
例えば、Speak as slowly as you can. Travel as much as you can.

英辞郎には、as best one can
できるだけ（うまく）、精いっぱい、あらん限りの能力を尽くして、
どうにかこうにか とありました。

as best one canで、イディオムでした。

編集後記：

昨日、インタースクール最終回としての個別カウンセリングが
ありました。ビジ英のテキストを持っていって、このテキスト
どうでしょう、と聞いてみたところ、ボキャブラリが簡単
すぎる、もっと難しいのをやったほうが良い、とのこと。
確かにインターの授業ではEconomist（メルマガ的には懐か
しいですね）をよく使っていて、語彙的にも内容的にも
難しいなあと思っていました。

4月からスクールはどうしようかなと思っています。インターは
きついのであまり乗り気ではないのですが、これくらいないと
やらないという面もありますし。
