[Image]Nairobi residents went on with their daily activities in most parts of the city on Friday morning as Opposition leaders and supporters prepared for a day of demonstrations.There was nonetheless a heavy presence of police in selected areas.Heavy rains appeared to have prevented youth in Opposition strongholds from congregating in the morning as has been witnessed in previous demonstrations against the Kenya Kwanza administration.Traffic flowed smoothly on Thika Super Highway, Outering Road and Juja Road, as most motorists opted to keep off.At Kamukunji Grounds, where Azimio leaders will address a rally, youth braved the chilly weather and assembled at the venue."The rain will not stop us from holding our maandamano. We must demonstrate against this regime,” said a youth.The youth danced to various beats to keep warm as they waited for their leaders.Ant-riot police have been deployed in Mathare and Huruma, areas that were battlefields during May 2, 2023 protests.Protests in the past started off peacefully but quickly turned violent, with protesters engaging in running battles with anti-riot police officers and barricading roads, hindering freedom of movement of people.Azimio leader Raila Odinga announced that the protest rally scheduled to take place at Kamukunji will be held countrywide.He rallied all his supporters across the country to mark the historic Saba Saba Day, by protesting against the current government over the high cost of living.
