We're now all iPad converts. We use them to keep army lists (and track damage on the lists using pdf annotators). It's also useful for photographing the battle as it progresses - and especially for command arrows(so the referee can see exactly where each side is heading for).

What its also good for is hidden movement and placement. Get the defending side to place the troops - photograph them - then remove the troops. The attacker is then faced (as would be the case) with an empty battlefield.

This leads to much more cautious deployment and movement (again more realistic) and many more thrills and spills (as the enemy is revealed). Makes for a much more exciting and realistic game.

A game of that size in two and a half hours is good going. A good indication that the rules (as well as the wine)is flowing.

I love my iPad for wargaming as well. It is a charm to keep OOBs and the like on it. It is just a shame that none of the rules we use are available for it!
