Just bought a J7 Crown online at Best Buy on sale for $140 with free shipping. Got it this morning and did a chat session and got it rebranded from Total Wireless to Tracfone with no problem. Then transferred my number and service from my old phone. Took about 20 minutes total. Very nice phone. Upgraded from J7 Sky Pro.

It's good to know that you can get the TOTAL WIRELESS phones converted to TRACFONE since Total Wireless phones are often priced more competitively than Tracfone's. Perhaps the Tracfone Reviewer could do a write up on this conversion process. I'm sure there are still lots of tips and tricks we all don't know about these phones. I am a loyal Tracfone user for over 5 years and also just upgraded my Galaxy Sky Pro to the J7 Crown. I tell all my friends, "If you're not using Tracfone, you're paying too much!" It's a well kept secret about the amazing Tracfone service! Why anyone would buy a $1000 phone and than $60 a month for service is beyond my comprehension. ...just saying.

Glad to hear your experience, Larry. I was just chatting with Tracfone about buying this phone (linked to Straight Talk) and having my Tracfone balances transferred over. I'm always skeptical, so your post makes me feel better about jumping in to do this.

Decided to upgrade from my now slowing Samsung Galaxy J7 Sky Pro from Total Wireless(Child company of Tracfone) that I had bought two years prior, and got the J7 Crown for $99, as I see no reason to spend hundreds of dollars on a phone I rarely use, since I do most of my work from my home PC. I'm disappointed to say that this phone does not have a fingerprint sensor as I was expecting it to and that it must not be included in the model I purchased, or it may be a knockoff. However, I'm very pleased with the overall feel, camera, and responsiveness of this phone, great buy despite not including what it was marketed to have contained.

This phone does have a light sensor. It does have hotspot, but since hotspot is against the ToS, I have not used it yet. The only thing that is upsetting is no USB-C or Gorilla Glass.

Tethering does work. It works as a mobile hotspot (broadcast wifi), bluetooth or USB cable tethering.

I am also bummed about the lack of fingerprint security, but I still can't believe how far Tracfone has come from the olden days!!!

I just got the Crown 2 days ago. Yes, mine is NFC capable. Although it's different from some of the specs in this article (no fingerprint reader, Android 8.0, no FM radio).

Article says yes, but the Crown in my hand says no. I used a sensor test app that shows which sensors are present in the hardware and which aren't. Fingerprint reader, step counter, heartrate monitor, etc., do not exist in mine. The only biometric feature it includes is facial recognition.

Thanks for this review!

I'm looking for a CDMA phone that I can use with another provider (PagePlus). PP told me that I should verify that this phone -- the one sold on Amazon for $99 -- is CDMA rather than GSM.

I looked on Amazon's product page for this phone; the only mention of which technology is from a single user, who said his was GSM. None said theirs was CDMA.

For the J7 SkyPro (of which I think this is an upgrade), there were many, many users who said theirs was CDMA, and none said theirs was GSM.

Can you tell me how you determined that this J7 Crown (S767VL) is actually CDMA (like the J7 SkyPro) rather than GSM?

Thanks!

Straight talk was not helpful in the least. I will be getting a different phone and going with a different provider.

Love tracfonereviewer, always use it to look read up on new phones. I bought the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown and was very bitterly disappointed in Samsung over this phone. It does not have an LED indicator light, like my Galaxy Core prime does. The aux connector does not work (although headphones will work). It had no native MP3/ media player, again, like my previous Galaxy AND my samsung tablet did. I'm returning the phone and reactivating my old phone.
Thanks for the great work on this blog, please keep it up.

Just a little information, since it seems like there is no post about this, Verizon's CDMA network will be dead at the start of next year. So people will need LTE and VoLTE phones for Verizon. People with CDMA phones will need to upgrade unless your phone has LTE and VoLTE enabled. Do not mistake SVLTE and CDMA phones with LTE with this because they will not work since they use CDMA for voice still.

We have a Samsung Galaxy Luna that works great and has never had a problem.
Tracfone keeps telling us our network is shutting down and we need to replace our phone. The box is marked LTE-V. We don't want a different phone if we can avoid the cost. What is happening? Talked to Tracfone but they kept dancing around our questions. Will our phone just stop working when the day comes? They will lose a lot of customers.

There is no NFC available on this particular variant of the phone. That feature is carrier-dependent, and TracFone's version has no support for it. If you buy the TracFone version of the J7 Crown, you will not be able to enable NFC for contactless payments.

Hi,
I purchased a Samsung Galaxy 7 Crown in March; had for only a week and returned to QVC for replacement device defective could not send or receive MMS or surf the web. Had the replacement phone for a month; and yes it too went bad, OS problems; could not read storage internal or sd reported storage full when it was not. Then the final straw could not answer calls or make calls. Replaced with the Samsung Galaxy 7 Sky Pro and works great. THE CROWN failed.

I don't know if it'd be worth it at $200 (Tracfone lists it at just slightly under that,) but I got it at $100 off... and I'm going to be biased, since this replaced a ridiculously slow (but insanely cheap at $30) ZTE Majesty Pro... which you couldn't store much of anything on, and which took ages to do almost anything. So far, while not "top of the line" experience, it's quite a nice, quick phone (and it doesn't have a "top of the line" $1000 price either.)

To answer my own question, this phone can detect and does connect to 5 Ghz WiFi. I bought the $119.99 bundle (1000-minutes, 2000 text messages, 2GB of data with 60 days of service) from Amazon, sold by Tracfone. I've had it for a few weeks and it's been working well so far.

To the previous person that said Verizon will be shutting down their CDMA network. This is true, however this phone should not be affected since it was made after 2014, has 4G, and likely supports HD Voice as required by verizon's transition to Voice over LTE.

My number indicator on my icons worked only for the first week. I have to open Facebook, Yahoo, and messenger and phone to see all missed posts, email, calls etc Been to Best Buy, Verizon, even a "You break we fix shop" called Total wireless to no fix, no help. I think this model needs to be recalled. I going to get another phone. Oh and any messegages from iPhones dont come on either. I saw this online selling for near 8-9 Hundred dollars then I see best buy selling it for $99.00 so I buy it. Now when I try to get this problem fixed I went to Best Buy and seen the same product selling for 39.00 to 59.00 these are returns. So Best buy is just trying to rid themselves from this model and their inventory of this model.

Yet, I had both from QVC, and both worked great. I replace when the price of the newer phone is cheaper than the price of adding talk, data, text. On QVC, I get both, for, let's say $99 to $129 which is the price of just the use package and I get a new phone too.

I'm the first to admit I don't know anything, period! But I do read a lot, & I observe what I remember reading. Not much to go on with guess about features in a phone you're about to or have bought recently. I bought the J7 Crown this past week from a black Friday sell out, at Target, local walk in, for $45. I have phones, too many now, but! It was the last one, & the price, hum, not bad! I'm actually shocked at how good this phone is out of the box. Full HD 1080 x 30 fps video, 13 MP stills front & rear, wow, I couldn't have bought a camera that good for that cheap, & I got a free phone with the camera... Everything can be stored on a micro SD @ 400 GB. If the ARM cpu, can run a robot, than this 8 core can kick up the dust, even with 2 GB of memory, everything is happening so fast, the memory never has the time to fill up. No FM? Well I don't know. I read, many phones have the chips but requires the correct software app to activate the chips for FM. If the company streams music, they don't want you listening to FM radio, so they don't publish an app unless it is in a special factory install OS app package. I have the app in my early model Samsung & it works great with apple buds. I would not install an app if I didn't find it on the phone app store. If the app never shows up, than that phone likely does not have the Tuner chips on the MB. Twenty seven days of standby gives me enough time to find my phone if I misplace it for sure. I like that! It turned on flawlessly on the Total Wireless. Some phone packages update the OS, some don't. Depends on what the factory installed OS/app package is to begin with, as to if the OS will update. Some will, some won't update. I think this J7 Crown, is a nice phone with a good camera, & very low power drain on the battery! Everything else seems to be average to the connection speed, like AC, or N, both very fast, usually faster than the servers that you are trying to connect to. You think Google gives you a GB of bandwidth when you connect to their web page? Dream on!The use vs the functionality of today's smart phones are rapidly reaching common functionality among many global manufactures. It is all in how the functionality is presented to the individual user, that counts the most.
