Yes this is a good phone as far as trackphones go. its on par with the LG L70, but again as stated the details are in the actual specs.

I believe it has a flash, not positive though, and one site says quad core another says duel.

The kicker will be to see if LG allows for the Android 5 update like the Moto cells.

I like this one, but am holding off a bit to see what the LG Volt does, and what it ends up with IF it also comes to TF. however if by the holidays it doesn't and LG authorizes the A5 update, than this may be my first "smartphone" :)

But will it ever see Android 5.0/Lollipop? LG remains tight lipped, so who knows if and when that will happen, if ever. We do know the Moto E will get the update for certain.

The Alcatel is higher end than this one and includes a quad core processor however it's Mediatek. Qualcomm has the highest ARM license so they customize their cores more. Cores are not created equal.

I wouldn't hold your breath for updates. It's Tracfone after all.

Yes, it does have flash.

Unless for whatever weird reason they change it from the Straight Talk phone I used.

I sincerely doubt the Alcatel actually has a quad core processor. On Tracfone's site this LG is also listed as having a quad core when in fact it's a Snapdragon 200 dual core.

The Alcatel is most likely running the same stuff.

does it have unlimited carryover minutes like the optimus dynamic II?

October 23, 2014 at 3:02 PM

I'm annoyed with these low resolution screens. I have the Trac Dynamic 2. The screen is not good for any web browsing, and it is slow. Tracfone is a great way to get some data for a low price, but these old phones are nuts. They could grab the first Gen Moto G, which is now a year old, and a better phone than these new ones. The Gen 2 Moto G is only $180. I don't understand the strategy of selling premium priced obsolete phones. And the BYOP thing is crazy complicated. I have three months left on my Tracfone, and I figure they will not have a decent Android by the end. There are a lot of other things people do with phones than call or use data. These phones are just no good enough, and you don't spend that much more for something that IS good enough.

October 23, 2014 at 3:34 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I recently purchased this phone, and thus far I am quite impressed for what it is. Build quality is good, especially the back cover, which is easier to remove and feels more substantial than the cover of the Dynamic II.

The screen is far nicer than the previous models I have owned (said models being the Dynamic II and Samsung Centura), providing a much more crisp image befitting the higher resolution. The processing boost is quite noticeable, as even things which would perform sluggishly on my older units such as Noscript for Android are almost always smooth.

Reception thus far seems to at least up to par with the Dynamic II, though I have not had much chance to challenge the reception as of yet.

Video and audio playback are noticeably improved as well, especially audio clarity when using headphones. The rear speaker sounds a bit tinny at high volumes, but this is not a high end sound system, and some equalizer setting changes in VLC or the like can subdue that quite a bit.

Power usage seems to be higher thus far than with the Dynamic II, though given the more powerful processor and larger screen this was not unexpected. I suspect it should match up to the listed battery life.

There appears to not be many additional applications added by LG, which is fortunate. The flashlight widget is quite a useful feature, but I ended up disabling the other applications.

The only real issue I have noticed thus far is VLC does not display any files or folders within the directory for the external SD card when in Directory view...which is strange since it can find the media files in other modes, and other programs such as ES File Explorer find everything just fine. This may have something to do with the directory for the external SD card being different from my previous phones, (new directory on mine is /storage/external_SD/), but this seems to be more a VLC issue than anything else. In the end, I just tend to open media files via ES File Explorer for quick browsing.

Overall the L41c is far superior to its predecessors, and a great option if you do not want to go for the bulkier Alcatel.

(One unfortunate downside to my experience with this phone, but not the phone itself, was my phone was messed with and I now lack the Google Play Services and Google Play Store apps which came with the phone. This actually would not bother me, save for the fact the version of Youtube installed on the phone requires Google Play Services to function, and thus far I have not found a version of Play Services which will run properly. If anyone else who picks up this phone might be kind enough to point me in the direction of the version of Play Services which came with phone I would be much obliged.)

I think the phone manufacturers play a part in this, along with the big carriers such as AT&T and Verizon.

I also think the new releases are better than you give them credit for being. Now the Moto E is quite a good phone from reading many reviews. And you can buy a Moto G and BYOP.

So there has been no increase in internal storage space? My biggest gripe about this phone's predecessor, the LGL34C, is that 4G internal storage is seriously prohibitive in light of KitKat's limitations on writing to the external drive. I literally do not have enough capacity to update any of my apps. My only option is to delete current apps, and that is ridiculous.

I was excited to read that a new release of this model with larger internal capacity was being released. Does this phone seriously only have 4G internal storage? What a mistake!

Just ordered it, previously had Tracfone Samsung Centura which I found disappointing. Takes too long to open up - screen darkens when trying to do a "call back" have to change position in the car many times to be able to see digits - cannot improve backlighting - my old LG was super for this but decided to upgrade to Android and wanted bigger screen - hope it is true that the visible screen size is 4.5" and overall unit is 5" - wish it came in white - the triple minurtes is a big selling point for me with no monthly bill - am senior senior and just want a phone that responds quickly and that I can see and hear clearly - bought all three from QVC so have till January 2015 to return if it does not perform as advertised.

Does the LG Ultimate 2 allow moving apps to the SD card? This is an important feature on these low end phones with limited memory. My LG Optimus Dynamic 2 allows it for some apps, but the Samsung Galaxy Centura does not.

I like this one too, but will wait to see if the LG Volt makes it to TF, I'm also waiting to see what TF will do when the new Android OS comes out (Lollipop) V 5 and IF they will be able to update these latest phones. This one is one of the better phones for us non apple types lol. that pretty much just need a "phone" and not some portable gaming machine.

Kitkat 4.4 seems to have some sort of problem being able to move apps to the SD card to make room, (some google security tthing) however on this Ult 2 (41c) you do have at least 4g + to use on phone, so it may be enough for most people that don't need/use a lot of these apps, since some stuff can be moved and placed on the SD card, like pics and music and videos.

Tracfone told me that a Tracfone branded phone does not offer OS upgrade, so you are stuck on whatever OS the phone comes with. Since they specified Tracfone branded this does not, I imagine, hold for a BYOP. Thus I am looking for a MOTO G that will work on Tracfone.

This may also be the reason why the delay in the release of the MOTO E as I imagine Motorola is waiting until they have phones with Lollipop installed before turning them over to Tracfone, though that is not certain.

I like the screen on the Moto E, but not the fact it has a non removable battery, no flash, and no front camera. I think the G does, so yeah if you find a good deal on ebay it might work for you.

I'm still holding out for a while yet on an Android OS phone, not in any real hurry, I have all I need right now with my simi smart 306G, it does the job, "make calls" and since its Java, I'm not concerned about any updating.

However, with most apps you can move the bigger elements OF the app to an SD card, like with The Simpsons: Tapped Out you can move the huge majority of the app to the SD card... just not the app itself.

There are probably ways around it with rooting and things like that, but I never bother with it myself.

If you take a look at LG's website, this overall form factor for phones of this ilk is very, very common... and there's one key difference between this and the Exceed 2 from what I understand. The Exceed 2 lacks a front facing camera.

As far as the Exceed 2 being eligible, the way Verizon's prepaid phones work, they aren't open to move to something like Straight Talk or TracFone until they've been used on Verizon for 6 months.

So now we need a comparison LG Ultimate 2 vs Moto G

How to decide?

November 19, 2014 at 12:35 PM

Blogger David said...

Well, hell that's easy. The Moto G blows the Ultimate 2 away in almost every conceivable way. It's more powerful (dual core on the U2, quad core on the G), a MUCH higher screen resolution (800x400 vs 1280x720), better cameras that can actually record in HD (the U2 only records video at 840x480).

EXCEPT for the fact that the Moto G doesn't have an SD Card slot. That's the only area where the Ultimate 2 beats it out... and for someone like me who keeps all their music and books on the SD card it isn't really a viable option despite the nice specs.

So between the two it mainly comes down to the SD Card. Are you willing to sacrifice the space for nice specs? On both phones you're going to have around 5GB of available space to work with on the device itself... unless something changed when the U2 went from Straight Talk to TracFone. I've only used it on Straight Talk.

But on the Ultimate 2 you have the choice to expand that space with a 32GB SD card.

November 19, 2014 at 9:17 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

The ultimate 2 can use 64GB SD cards, as well.

November 20, 2014 at 3:34 AM

Blogger David said...

I wouldn't know. If I remember correctly the box for the Straight Talk one just says it'll go up to 32GB.

Though I could be mistaken.

Still, 32 or 64 gigs... unfortunately you just aren't adding that to the Moto G. hehe

November 20, 2014 at 9:49 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I have heard the Ultimate 2 would take 64GB too but I have not be able to confirm. I saw something about it on the Howard Forums but no one responded about actually doing it.

November 21, 2014 at 9:15 AM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

So the processor is faster, the camera can record in HD, and the screen resolution is higher. OK. Except for the idea that a phone might be used for recording and watching video, why would the Moto G be better as a phone than the Ultimate 2, or as a Google app device using a 3G network?

Take high end video out of the picture and tell me why this will work better as a phone.

November 21, 2014 at 12:49 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I bought one from shopcelldeals on amazon for $114 w/ free shipping and received it last Friday. So far I would say it's a great phone. The phone has 5GB internal memory available; additionally I'm using a 32GB Micro SDHC and have had no issues with it what so ever. The Android KitKat 4.4 OS works well and has a lot of nice features. With the auto-focus camera I can now scan bar-codes and QR codes quickly, which is great for using with apps like myfitnesspal. The phone does have Triple Minutes for Life in separate buckets for Talk Minutes, Texts and Data; I transferred my number and minutes from a LG 800G TracFone without issue. My only gripe is that the free/bonus minutes on my previous phone did not transfer; hence I lost out on the promo/bonus airtime I had. Other than that; this Android phone is well worth the price for those not looking to get the most cutting edge device that makes for a very good TracFone upgrade or first Android phone.

November 21, 2014 at 12:49 PM

Blogger David said...

Well, that's why I worded my reply the way I did. They're both fine devices for the money.

It's just all about what you want. They'll both work great as a phone.

I can give you my personal thoughts, though.

I'm personally getting the Tracfone variant of the Ultimate 2 over a used/unlocked Moto G because I need that extra space. I'm in the car for about 4 to 5 hours a morning, so I listen to a lot of audio books and podcasts, not to mention the 8 or 9 gigs of music I've got stashed away on the memory card... so the lack of space on the Moto G wouldn't really work out for me personally. Sure, I COULD steam all that stuff over 3G, but with Tracfone that would get expensive very quickly, so I figure if I don't have to why should I?

I don't really do any major mobile gaming (Mahjong, Dragon Quest 1 and 2 and Ghostbusters Pinball are literally the only games I have installed, and they run perfectly on either device) so that's kind of a non issue for me.

Now, if what I stated wasn't an issue and I had them both in front of me to choose from right now? I'd honestly probably go with the Moto G.

They both offer a smooth experience to use, though the Moto G has a bit of an advantage in the fact that it's quite simply more powerful. Not that the Ultimate 2 is a dog in any way whatsoever of course.

Oh, another difference between the two now that I think of it, depending on how important this is to you, the battery isn't user replaceable on the Moto G.

Well... I'd imagine you COULD replace the battery. But it's not replaceable in the sense that you just pop the back cover and take it out. heh

But in the end "...tell me why this will work better as a phone." when used "as a phone" they're both going to provide pretty much the exact same experience. They're both going to make calls, they're both going to send texts. Call quality? I have no idea one way or the other... I'm not that picky about it. As long as I can understand the person I'm talking to and they can understand me, fine.

When I get my Ultimate 2 it'll finish out my total switch to Tracfone.

I talk for MAYBE 20 or 30 minutes in an entire month, and send maybe 50ish texts... and even that's offset by having the Freedompop app installed for when I'm at home on Wifi. With my Tracfone plan as of right now the way I use the phone... I MIGHT have to buy a data card or two between now and August of 2015. lol

I went from the Java LG800 phone to the ZTE Valet and have been unimpressed with the call quality, the poor wifi (never turn it on), and the phone simply gets buggy and has to be rebooted often. It takes forever to load a map etc. So I guess I'll be going back to LG and hope this phone solves these problems.

Sure wish it was on a Black Friday list!

Hi, got my U2 today. Very nice phone. I see a number of folks asking if it is Gorilla Glass? I'm not sure how to tell, but I'm gonna say no, it is not. I have a Google Nexus 4 and the surface on that phone is smoother and more solid, while the U2 feels like plastic. That said, the screen is very nice, bright, responsive to the touch.

I've had my LG Ultimate 2 for a week now and I must say that I'm very impressed. It's very fast and responsive. I had been using Smart Launcher Pro on my other phone so I went ahead and put it on this one. So, I haven't used the stock launcher yet. With Smart Launcher it's very fast. So far I have no complaints about it. I would highly recommend this phone, if you can find one. I got mine off of eBay for $119.00 with free shipping. They seem to be hard to find. I can see why. It's a great phone for a great price!

I tried to order the 9.99 LG Fuel from both Kmart and Sears with no luck, the order was canceled by them after it was placed. Then I looked at the links for shopcelldeals on Ebay and the LG Ultimate 2 with 1200 minutes was priced at 129.99 not 199.99 so that's what I've gone for. Is the Ultimate 2 worth the extra $20 over the Moto e?

December 5, 2014 at 1:22 PM

Blogger David said...

My personal opinion? Yes.

While they both have the same processor and the same amount of RAM, the only thing the Moto E has over the Ultimate 2 is a somewhat higher screen resolution (960x540 vs the U2's 800x400). And, apparently it has cornering Gorilla Glass. I'm not sure if the Ultimate 2 has that or not to be perfectly honest.

The U2's rear 5MP shooter has autofocus and flash, and it as a 1.3MP front facing camera. All of which the Moto E lacks. The U2 has double the space at 8GB (with around 5GB of user storage vs The Moto E's 4GB with around 2GB of user storage) as well as a (slightly) larger screen at 4.5" vs the Moto E's 4.3"

The video recording capabilities on both units aren't all that great, though. The U2 records at 800x480 and the Moto E records at 854x480.

But, yeah. Me personally, I'll sacrifice a little bit of screen resolution for more space and the extra camera capabilities. For me, without autofocus, it'd be a bitch and a half to scan things like barcodes to do price checking and whatnot.

If you want to give the phone a try, just head up to Walmart, buy the Straight Talk version of it and give it a try.

Or if you want a cheaper "try it out" option, the LG Optimus Exceed 2 for Verizon prepaid is ALMOST identical to the Ultimate 2. It only has 4GB of space and doesn't have the front facing camera, but it IS otherwise identical and is only about 60 bucks.

You don't need to activate them (though you will have to dig through Google to get past the activation screen unless someone here can tell you) to just try them out.

Just make sure you keep all the packaging and the receipt and you shouldn't have any problems returning it after you're done trying it out.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes, it's worth it for the auto focus camera and flash, which the Moto E does not have, as well as both front and rear facing cameras.

Tracfone has the specs on there phone screwed up, guess they don't have a proof reader!

I had to return the phone and go back to my non android Samsung Tracfone.

I bought the L39C from HSN in September and got 1200 min/texts/mb of data. I upgraded to the L41C tonight. I did it all online, and all of my buckets transferred correctly in less than 5 minutes. Then I added the 1200 min/texts/mb of data pin that came with the L41C, and it almost immediately added that to the buckets. Plus it added 8 months of service time. So I have over 2000 in all my buckets and my service time ends in May of 2017!

I happen to catch the L41C on QVC last week with free shipping so ended up only paying $7 more than my husband when he got it as a TSV. After he got his, I had major phone envy so was glad when they did the free shipping promotion. I wanted to order it from QVC, because if I got a defective phone, they have the best return policy with no worries, and you don't have to pay for return shipping.

You will love the L41C compared to the L39C...the size of the screen, the speed...everything...

To receive a picture in a text message, make sure that your data is either on or that you have a signal. A cell phone signal is different from data as you can turn the data off and still make calls and whatnot.

Outside of that, I really don't know what to tell you. hehe

Weird. My CDMA LG Optimus Fuel works awesomely as far as getting a signal. It's not my main phone currently, but it is sitting around as a backup or when I forget to charge my main phone. Which happens often. lol

Are you sure that you got a Verizon version of the phone? Does it say CDMA in one of the lower corners of the box?

In my case around here, they DO sell pre-paid phones that use Sprint towers despite the fact that Sprint is borderline worthless around here with regards to getting a signal for much of anything.

You CAN use apps to control things over WiFi.

Like, for instance, if you have a Roku or a Chromecast... or even use that Chromecast capability on your computer, like pulling up a YouTube video on your phone and outputting it to the computer's display.

But an IR port? No.

I have been TF user for # of years, went from the flip to LG 800 to the LG 840, and overall pleased, basic need is for occasional phone and text. A 120 min card with 3X minutes lasts me 1-1/2 months. Internet not really needed for me during day, but would like to check radar occasionally when working by myself, most of the time, I have a partner that can do that on one of the other carriers.

I have a question: Does the LG U2 do voice texting? I noticed that it does voice calling. It seems most of the time my boss texts me while driving. I don't like to even talk on phone while driving, let lone text. I will read a quick text (at least it's not a newspaper or novel). I wait until it's safe to respond, sometimes that means pulling over somewhere (that being an inconvenience).

The LG U2 seems to be the better TF Android out there that I have been reading reviews/comments on for a couple of months from all over and haven't found out this question or was missed. Hope some one can help me out on which one does if the LG U2 doesn't. :-)

It may very well do it out of the box, but since I don't have the phone anymore (I used it on Straight Talk, but now I'm on Tracfone) I can't check for myself. I know it doesn't have that capability on the LG Optimus Fuel, which is functionally much the same as the U2.

But since I have no use for it, there's no reason for me to hunker down and dig up a way to do it. heh

Yes - the built-in LG app Voice Command allows you to send a voice text. Tap the app and a list of voice command options appears in a pop-up box. When you hear the verbal cue "Say A Command" say "send text to" and the name of the person in your contact lists. You alternately can send a text to a given phone number.

After two out-of-box failures of the Alcatel Onetouch Pop Icon (bought the week it came out), I returned it and exchanged for the LG Ultimate 2. As a first-time smartphone user, I've been happy with how intuitive most of the features of the Ultimate 2 seem to be for a non-tech-savvy older user. The only major thing I can't figure out is why it sometimes flashes green (the bottom button flashes twice, then pauses, then flashes twice, etc. No messages or incoming texts). Handy size, camera seems to work well. Wish it had an automatic Facebook interface, as the Alcatel did. Took me a while to figure out how to post to FB from the phone. I like the voice recorder and voice command features, too. I didn't like the way the volume and off/on buttons are directly across from each other (meaning when I tried to turn it off with one hand, I messed up my volume instead), but putting it in one of the "tuff" cases solved that, as the raised buttons on the sides now actually make it easier to use those button features.

I recently got both the LG Ultimate 2 and Alcatel Onetouch Pop Icon, and the LG Ultimate 2 is much better than the Alcatel One Touch Pop Icon.

I like the screen size and the loud/clear speakers of the Alcatel, but there are two major flaws with that phone. Every Youtube video I've played studders/skips every 10 seconds (audio plays fine but video freezes for 1 sec). This also happens in some games I've tried (Real Racing 3 and Tengai) so it's not an internet connection problem, but a fault with the phone's hardware. It's the main issue that keeps me from wanting to use it. The other major drawback is that there is only about 2GB of usable storage space and you can't move apps to the microSD card. The front facing camera is blurrier than LG. There are also less customization options and features than the LG.

I ended up giving the Alcatel to my father since he is less experienced with phones, and it has the simple mode GUI and louder speakers. Then gave the LG to my mother and bought another LG for myself. We were both using the Samsung Galaxy Centura and this is a huge upgrade from that. Not saying that the Alcatel is bad (it is better than previous Tracfone phones), but the LG Ultimate 2 is better.

Yeah, so far at least with the Tracfone *branded* phones the U2 is the best period.

The only one I've heard of that comes close is the BYOP device, the Moto G... and that one is hampered by the fact it doesn't have an SD Card slot. Not a bad phone by any means, but it just wouldn't do me any good due to the limited space and only being around 30 bucks cheaper than the U2. heh

LG L41C - things I've discovered that are not documented in the manual:

Home Screen - Add a 5th or 6th Quick Keys icon
-Add Extra Icons to Home-Screen Quick-Keys Row (Bottom row of unchanging icons on all Home Screen panels)
The Quick Keys come with 4 icons by default, but there is room and you can drag a 5th or 6th icon into the Quick Keys row. The icons will shrink slightly with addition of the 5th and text will disappear with addition of the 6th icon. Add things like the camera icon or maybe that second texting application icon, etc. You can also create folders holding multiple icons on the Quick Keys icon row.

-Quickly Select Default Home Screen (the screen that appears when the "Home Screen" button is pressed) or add an additional blank Home Screen Panel.
From any Home Screen Panel - Pinch-To-Zoom Out on that Home Screen Panel. "Set Default Home Screen" appears.
This screen shows down-sized versions of all of the Home Screen Panels. Touch one of them to set it as the default Home Screen .
You can also add additional blank Home Screen Panels by pressing the blank Home Screen Panel that displays a plus (+) sign.

-Contacts List (If you are getting phantom contacts added, double entries, contacts with no phone number, etc) Prevent Phantom Contact List Entries:
The Contacts List is set up, by default, to add contacts from other sources (G-mail contacts, Facebook contacts, other e-mail list contacts, etc). To turn off this "feature" and use only contacts you have entered into the phone, On the Home Screen, Select: Contacts icon, Press Menu Key, Settings, Contacts To Display, Select "Phone", Press Back Key several times to exit.

No, it doesn't have one.

Although there are apps that act as a remote over Wifi like for Roku and Windows apps and whatnot.

Any info for editing contacts in LG41c? Not able to change anything! When in contacts and then settings, the "edits" for contacts appears to be disabled even though it's checked (this area has a lighter highlighted area). Thanks

This is the way it works on my LG Optimus Fuel, and it's got the same type of home button light. Go to Settings then Display. If it's the same as mine, it'll be at the bottom under Home Button LED.

If not, there it's there in the settings somewhere under Home Button LED or Notification Light or something like that.

Im thinking about getting this phone from amazon, the deal includes 1200 mins/t/d for $130. Ive ordered from qvc/hsn before where they give a promotional code to use when you call to redeem to get the tf 400 min code that triples. Does anyone know how this works with the amazon 1200 minutes deal? Is there an expiration on the redeem period? If I order it now but they ran the 1200 bonus promo a few months ago and when I try to redeem it they will not honor it as the time frame has passed even though the site still lists it?

Im not a big phone user, currently using a lg dynamic and its kinda getting a bit long in the tooth. Thought about the moto g also but the 1200/1yr deal is a lot better.

Make sure your speak to text option is still on inside your settings. If it is still on and if it is like my LG Optimus hold down the settings button (gear looking button next to space bar) on the keyboard when getting ready to text and the secondary button will show the microphone. Press the microphone and it will work again.

I imported Contacts from Facebook on the LG Ultimate 2 and discovered that I am unable to edit these contacts. There is no way to add an address, change a phone number, etc. I went to TracFone's site and used LiveChat to find out if I was missing something, but I wasn't. The only way you can edit a contact is to add it manually. NOT GOOD!

On the LG Ultimate 2, is there a way to turn off/on the cellular data usage so that you only use wifi? I don't want my phone using up the little data reserves I have while away from wifi until I need it.

In your home screen, just drag your finger down from the top.

One of the buttons up there will say "Data". Tap that to turn it on and off. That's the quickest way to do it.

How is this phone for running apps? I want to use an app called iBird that uses a large amount of space for bird calls. Has anyone had any experience with this. Also what about using a navigation app? Do they work on this phone?

July 19, 2015 at 8:52 AM

Blogger David said...

It's run every app I've come across just fine. that app called iBird... if it uses a large amount of space for bird calls, it's most likely on the SD Card so there wouldn't be any worries there unless you just don't like to use SD Cards for some reason.

Looking at an app called "iBird Pro North America" in the app store (I guess that's the app you're referring to?) it says it requires at least 675MB of space. The available space on the phone just by itself is more than adequate for that.

One of the reviews reads as follows for this app: "Very polished and excellent overall, but there really doesn't seem to be any good reason to make me keep *both* the download file and the extracted data (~1.5GB). Especially when there is no provision made to allow for moving the extracted data off of my packed to the limit internal 16GB memory and on to my spacious 128GB microSD card."

Even with that... this phone has around 5GB of available space on the phone. So even with what this guy is talking about, there's enough space.

Unless that isn't the app you were referring to, then all my whole 2 minutes of research on it was wasted. hehe

Navigation is part of Android, so any phone running Android with GPS the navigation is going to work. I can't think of ANY modern phone from a major company like LG that doesn't have GPS, so yeah.

That, and I've used the GPS on this phone before so I know damned well it works. ;)

I've seen a notice at the bottom of my screen sometimes, if I try to increase the brightness passed 80%. It complains that the temperature would get too high. I'm not sure that this is due to the Internet connection, or just do to the outside air temperature. Since I see your post was in January, I'm somewhat confused. I just received my phone, and it is near 90 degrees here. Is there an APP to show the phone's temperature?

The article says that you cannot add just texts--that you have to add a regular minutes card, which adds minutes, data and texts. Is that still true? I am seeing on the tracfone site that you can purchase special cards, "Only for Smartphones," and one of the cards is 1,000 texts for $10. Also, if this is a positive change, does anyone know if I can buy those 1000 texts from tracfone even if I purchase my LG Ultimate 2 from Amazon? Thank you.

Blogger TracfoneReviewer Team said...

Thanks for pointing that out, adding text only cards is newly available from Tracfone, and this post needs to be corrected. You should have no problem adding a text card to your smartphone, even if you bought it through a different retailer.

I have 2 questions re LG41C:
When I try to install a news app I get a message "No Carrier" but I want to use it with WiFi. How do I change that?
How do I keep the "all apps" icon on the home screen?
Thanks. New to Android but like LG41C after only 10 days.

September 16, 2015 at 9:57 AM

First one. Make sure Wifi is actually turned on. Just drag from the top of the screen to get to the notifications and you'll see it at the top.

Second. The "All Apps" icon should just be in the dock at the bottom of the screen where it can always be accessed no matter which home screen you're on.

I know this is old post but I haven't seen a reply. I just got this phone and had the same trouble finding the speed dial settings. I finally found it in Contacts, under the context-sensitive menu key (to the right of the Home button). From that menu, select "Speed dial", select the speed dial entry you want to program and then select a contact. Hope this helps someone.

This may be related to the roaming comment above, but I figured out Verizon is the carrier for my phone and I get no reception at our WI cottage. Like zero. My wife has a Tracfone (non-smart) and has ATT as the carrier and gets plenty of reception. Any ideas?

I own a ZTE Valet. It will not hold a Wifi signal unless you are within 5 feet of the router. I went back to my old phone. I hope the LG Ultimate 2 is better than the ZTE Valet.

November 3, 2015 at 10:14 AM

I concur with Scott Kerns. Although my ZTE Valet held a Wifi signal at a greater distance that 5 feet from the router, it definitely could not match signal strength of other cell phones I owned. It was always a chore to find a strong enough Wifi signal to produce consistent results. The LG Ultimate 2 has a much better Wifi receiver and can easily match the best of phones for signal strength.

I just tried a side by side test at a somewhat out there in the woods VT cottage. My ancient Nokia candybar Tracfone works fine. No connect with my L41C, I think the carrier is Verizon, I've traveled to a big city with my L41C and it worked there when I needed it to, so it will roam but there is something else going on with it. I opened two tracfone website "buy" windows, one for my primary location and a second for the cottage location. Indeed, tracfone doesn't list the L41C for the cottage location so that confirms my findings. The odd thing, however, is there are no phones listed as working in both my primary and secondary locations (even those with a "C" - for CDMA - in the phone name). I had assumed a 3G CDMA Verizon phone would work a throughout the Verizon network. Not the case , apparently. Looks like I'm not only going keep that Nokia candybar going but carrying it with me along with the L41C. Great! Two phones! Am I becoming a phone nerd?
