Hi, FYI just tried to activate and transfer my number from my moto 4 to moto 7 using my existing sim card. I got an error message telling me to call Tracfone. The rep told me you cannot reuse your sim card, you have to get a new one.

Thank you for this excellent, thorough review. You've just about "sold me" on this phone for two good reasons. 1) On Tracfone's website, their top-of-the-line upgrade phone (Samsung Galaxy S7) is discounted to $225, but I haven't found any reviews for that model (G930VL), so I'm hesitant to commit. 2) Best Buy has the Moto G7 (Unlocked) on sale for $149. That alone just about seals the deal.
I can be best described as a "casual user". I don't live and die by my cell phone; I certainly do NOT use it for entertainment. More often than not, I'll visit Twitter/Facebook when I'm out dining alone. (It's the modern-day equivalent of reading the paper while you eat.) Therefore, it seems that the Moto fits the bill. As Goldilocks would say, "This one is just right."

UPDATE TO MY RECENT COMMENT ABOUT BEST BUY PRICING

I mentioned the sale price of $149 @ BB earlier. That was a bit premature. Best Buy has _tiered_ pricing depending on which carrier you choose:

$149 - Sprint
$199 - Verizon
$249 - AT&T
$249 - Activate Later (which means, of course, Tracfone)

I checked all three, and the plans range from $30 to $135 per month, all of which are substantially more than my $15 Auto-Refill monthly plan with Tracfone.

I hope I didn't get anyone's hopes too high. I did it myself, so I share your "pain" or at least your disappointment.

Went through the BYOP process this morning, and everything went quite smoothly on the Tracfone end of things. No problems/glitches/delays whatsoever. Very impressive!

The only issues came during the data transfer process:

1) Google contacts transferred just fine. Phone numbers which had been added to the phone only did NOT.
2) Google apps also transferred easily--which should probably be a given--but apps downloaded from the play store did NOT.

If I were using a star rating for the whole process, I'd give it 8 out of 10, onlly because it will take a considerable chunk of time to manually re-enter omitted contacts and to re-download apps.

Yea, Everyone knows that you can't just switch SIM cards with Tracfone. - - - You need to go to Bestbuy and for $1.00 buy a Tracfone "Bring Your Own Smartphone SIM KIT" - - - you then have the option to go with 1 of 3 networks: T-Mobile, Verizon or AT&T. - - - I myself also bought a Unlocked LG G6 - 8 months ago for $399 but now it's $299 well worth it even at the price I paid, The Specs are awesome - look into it - I highly recommend this unlocked LG G6 (LG US997USABK).

I just bought two of the Moto G7 phone because I read that it is compatible with TracFone. I bought them from Amazon and I picked up new SIM kits so I could transfer our phone numbers from our old phones (also with TracFone). Our SIM card is the CDMA/Verizon one, but it said our phone is ineligible. I called and the rep said the same thing. I'm trying to figure out why it's not working, because everything I read online indicates it should work. Has anyone reported any problems with this?

If you purchased you phone from Amazon did you get the international model? There are lots of those for sale and they are not compatible with Tracfone. It has to be an unlocked US version.

(different person) I bought the CDMA GSM unlocked version in Amazon and wound up with the same ineligible warning. Don't understand what is going on with some places saying it's compatible when it doesn't appear to be the case.

I successfully transferred my Tracfone service from a Moto g4 Plus to Moto g7 with one exception. I was wondering if ANYONE had a similar problem OR a working solution.
I backed up contacts and messages, but when transferred and reactivated, any group texts that are in a group with a title -- such as Family or Orders -- cannot be received. I can receive group texts when a series of names are entered, but not a GROUP name.
I have tried 4 different recommended app for SMS and MMS texting and NONE work -- Message, Message+ from Verizon, Chomp, and Textra.
I have used Message+ successfully for 3 years, and have sought tech help from Tracfone, Verizon, and Motorola.
I DON'T CARE WHAT APP WORKS! I just need one that will allow them.
