Well. This is interesting. Four sought in alleged hate crime near Whyte AvenueEdmonton Journal
November 26, 2012 4:37 PM EDMONTON - Police are searching for four people involved in an alleged hate crime near Whyte Avenue last August.
Police
say the group — which included a very large, muscular man with a shaved
head, a chubby, shirtless man with a long Afro hair style, and another
man wearing a yellow cast and a lady’s blouse — assaulted two people
outside a liquor store near 99th Street and 81st Avenue at about 3 a.m.
on Saturday Aug. 11.
Police say the three white males in their 30s
approached a young black male outside the store and threatened him with
racial slurs, then punched the younger man in the face and threw him to
the ground, where the assault continued. Police say a second man was
also assaulted after attempting to help his friend.
The group of suspects then fled south along 99th Street.
The Edmonton Police Service Hate Crimes Unit is investigating the attack as a racially-motivated hate crime. Police say the three suspects are all described as being white men in their 30s.
The
first is described as being six feet tall, about 250 pounds and “very
muscular.” He had a shaved head and clean-shaved face and wore a white
tank top and beige shorts.
The second suspect is described as
being 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, with a thin build, crew-cut hair and a
goatee. That suspect had a yellow cast on his left hand, and was wearing
what police describe as a “black V-neck women’s blouse.”
The
third suspect is described as being about 5-foot-10, with a chubby build
and long, brown “Afro-style hair.” He was not wearing a shirt.
Police
are also looking for a younger woman who was with the group. She is
described as being about 5-foot-4 and 130 pounds, with an average build
and long hair. She was wearing a white tank top and shorts. The woman is
not alleged to have been physically involved in the assault.
Police have released surveillance video taken from inside the store, which shows blurred and grainy images of the suspects.
Police
say the video shows the first male suspect walking by himself, followed
by the second male suspect, who is wearing the women’s blouse and
yellow cast. The third suspect and the female are the last figures shown
on the video.
