Homophobia has unfortunately been an enduring problem in dancehall music. Years ago I abruptly stopped listening to Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Buju Banton, Capleton and several others when I realized what some of the lyrical content contained.

Interesting in the link provided that Beenie Man describes the "gay lifestyle" as unwholesome. Has he ever seen some of his own videos?

Well, homophobia might be a problem in dancehall music, yeah. But I just don't understand why anyone has to express their opinion in such a way. I mean, I am all for freedom of speech but this is just silly and prejudiced.

This kind of comes as a shock to me too, I have never heard any lyrics referencing this type of stuff in dancehall before,. It very well could be a cultural thing over there, i have heard that Jamaica is not very gay friendly. does not make it right though.. its sad, cause just like some of the nazi metal bands the talent is there but the hate gets in there and then its ruined for anyone, 99% of people who might otherwise enjoy it.
