I find this a really weird take on the issues Daniel, but only for the reason that these things are bread and butter to critical realists. Indeed, the whole idea of explanatory critique explains all this, as does my 2006 CUP book on Agents and Structures in International Relations: Politics as Ontology. A critical realist that didn't embrace the reality of these subjective states wouldn't be a critical realist. It's all laid out very clearly in Roy's Possibility of Naturalism.
