But Rany! I'm already saving up some money up for my playoff tickets!

Me too. Now how much are playoff tickets again? Last I checked about 2 decades ago, they were about $15. That still true?

I agree it is an interesting beginning, so much more fun to win than lose, and in exciting ways. Collins, Crow very nice so far. Putting Alex into the fire instead of continuing to baby him, nice so far, and great if it pays off. Hoping that Alcides can end up being able to hit enough, interesting that game is on between Getz and Aviles, Getz is not just going to give up.

It was a fun series. And now I know how other fan bases feel when they played the Royals in the past decade. I much prefer watching the other team's BP blowing game after game.

I think our BP will be the strength of the team. The offense will be good enough too. But the SP is just brutal.

Hopefully the SP can be significantly improved in the upcoming years.

Rany, I live in Columbia and saw Crow pitch many times in college. I've always maintained that he would end up as a reliever due to his lack of size (he's about 6/170), lack of a third pitch and most importantly the difference in his slider when he was pitching early in the game, season or on long rest vs later in games, season or on shorter rest. All pitchers are subject to this at some point but Crow more so than others. I hope that Yost does not try to use him in a traditional setup role and instead uses him 2-3 times a week in bigger intervals. I think you will find the more games he pitches the less sharp his stuff becomes. That may also be the reason that your eyes see a better pitcher than stats show (at least in the minor leagues). Crow does have a really nice twoseamer that he has not shown much yet.

You are in fine form today Rany, that was three pretty epic quips in just one piece.

This is a professional baseball team, we haven't seen that in a while here in Kansas City and they are fun to root for.

Off one series it is easy to jump to false conclusions, but the bullpen does look like a strength. The starting pitching, not so much.

Maybe they will use Crow like they used Greinke when he came back from his timeout. Don't use the guy for just one inning and don't waste him in games we are trailing in. If we have a starter ahead after five we have the option of using Crow in the 6th & 7th and Tejada and Soria can finish up.

And, let's pray that Kendall's rehab continues to falter. I can't imagine any rational person looking at Kendall-Treanor-Pena and deciding to let Pena go. Pena is the counterpoint to two clones. That means Treanor will be the odd man out.

I wish KCGhost, but from everything I've heard, Pena will be the one sent packing. Hopefully he can clear waivers and go to Omaha. They just won't give the guy a chance....

Watching Jarrod Dyson run is one of the most fun things you can do at the ballpark. And he is so incredibly disruptive. The entire Angels organization was paying attention to him when he pinch ran on Sunday - didn't score, but that wasn't his fault. He got to third, but they didn't try to steal home or suicide squeeze. Although we should suicide squeeze with Dyson, particularly if someone like Getz or Escobar is up.

The Royals are in first place and Rany is the voice of caution. I think I woke up in Bizarro World.

I am happy to aspire to league-average. If that 2000 team had a league-average pitching staff, who knows??

And the best thing is that virtually any player the Royals call up has the potential to be at least league-average--only to get better.

What is it about Crow or Duffy that the Royals would try them in the pen (and still say they could start down the road), but they will only use Montgomery as a starter? It will be very interesting to see what they do with the starting pitching now.

If there's anything to be optimistic about, it's that this came against the Angels. I'm not sure how many times Ryan Lefebvre told me that the Angels have dominated the Royals over the past several years, but I know I heard it a lot!

The injuries will be fun to keep an eye on. Kinda positive actually.

Better times ahead.

I'm definitely not exactly drinking the koolade as yet but I have been telling people for some time now that this team is not nearly as bad as everybody thinks.

By that I mean, like, 73-89, not the 65-97 number everybody seem to throw around. Couple things break their way and they might even do a little better than that.

The Royals are improved by the guys who AREN'T here any more as much as who is here.

This was definitely a fun series to watch. Really the only roster and lineup decision I wonder about is batting Gordon third. I think I'd much rather see a Butler, Ka', Gordon 3-4-5.

Nitpick - Rey Sanchez' walk off home run was not hit down the line barely fair. It was hit right at the old visitor's bullpen and scraped the metal ceiling. I can close my eyes and see it like it was yesterday. :)

I was in Surprise for the last 10 days of camp and only saw Francis reach 87 mph and only twice - get used to it (the next Moyer?). Tejeda is barely breaking 90 and that bothers me a bit. On Sat, Lamb's best fast ball was 88 and his scouting report says he hits 94. However, Montgomery hit 96 so they haven't toned the gun down.

Amidst all the positives, you forgot to mention that Aviles looks lost at the plate and the field - how long before the Moose watch begins???

Rany: This is why I check everyday to see if you've posted, this is another phenomenal article. Where does Moustakas fit in, is it true his defense is sub par?

Rany is trying to out-Boomer Berman with the nicknames, though, thankfully, Rany is much better at it than Chris Berman ever was. I came up with Jeremy Jeffress' nickname over on Royalboard. It should be Smokin' Js

The offense has some potential and the bullpen might be among the best in baseball. But the current starting rotation is such a nightmare on paper that it could make Edgar Allen Poe shed tears of fear mixed with envy. I don't think we can even approach .500 this year with those starters.

Not to worry long-term: Even though There Is No Such Thing As A Pitching Prospect, there is such a thing as several dozen pitching prospects. Some of them will pan out. Just saying: enjoy the 4-1 start, but get ready to lose a lot 10-4 games in the next six months.

Speaking as a Braves fan, I wish we'd kept Collins and let you guys keep Farnsworth. It's not fair. He's so awesome.

The Royals released one of my favorite sleeper prospects today in Hilton Richardson, who was immediately snapped up by the Braves. So, either I'm stupid, or they are. Guess we'll see in a few years. Honestly, I'm guessing it's me.

Why did they drop him now? He's toolsy, so it's going to take awhile. He was AWFUL last year, but really good the year before. I'd have kept him, made him repeat the level, and make a decision around the time of the draft. I know we've had him a few years...but I am, and have always been, under the impression that if someone could become Lorenzo Cain, it's Hilton.

Considering that Cain should be our starting centerfielder right now, I think hoping that a guy like Richardson gets that good is pretty reasonable.

Cain, I just noticed, has not played for Omaha yet. He started the season on the DL with a strained groin.
